I don't know what qualifies as good romance. The only romantic stories I can stand are Monster Musume and Katawa Shoujo.

Because joy and hope are illusions and love is merely a warm, fleeting thought that is there to fool us into thinking life is anything but cold, unforgiving, and harsh. Woe unto thee, Avatar fans. Woe unto thee.
(But seriously, you owe it to yourself to check this comic out: It's even more bizarrely horrible than the first one.)
Okay, what what what what what?! I decided to check out the original first and-!
I just- I- Katara? And Zuko? What?
*dies*
Seriously, why do people have this innate ability to take canon and completely miss the point of characterization, plot, and conflict in the name of contrived, badly-written and overly-dramatic romance?! Guh.
And how often are people actually exposed to *good* romance in media? :P
Luckily the fic looks thoroughly dead, and the TVTropes article doesn't seem to have changed much since I saw it a year ago. But it's fairly noxious despite how short it is.
On a more positive note, there's a sporking of the original here.
