If you like the theme behind it, I also suggest Small Gods by Pratchett and Long Dark Teatime of the Soul by Douglas Adams.
Hopefully this TV adaptation will be better than the one for Neverwhere. -

The casting seems really good and Gaiman is happy. I reread it not too long ago (audiobook version is great) and it's such an amazing and complex story, that it deserves the very best.

My favourite of Gaiman's books is The Graveyard Book, but this appears to be very exciting. (I must admit that I am not familiar with American Gods.)

Ekhm... Wikipedia to the rescue!
"The central premise of the novel is that gods and mythological creatures exist because people believe in them (a form of thoughtform). Immigrants to the United States brought with them spirits and gods. The power of these mythological beings has diminished as people's beliefs wane. New gods have arisen, reflecting America's obsessions with media, celebrity, technology, and drugs, among other things."
In the "Old Gods" corner we have (among others):
- Odin: Norse God of Wisdom, War, and Magic.
- Anansi: Trickster Spider-God from Africa.
- Easter: the Germanic goddess of the dawn.
- Kali
- Queen of Sheba
In the "New Gods" corner we have (unfortunately):
- God of the Internet
- Goddess of Television
- Gods of the Modern Stock Market -

Holy halite-tipped arrowheads, this universe looks interesting. (90% of my Creative Curses will be about rocks. I don't regret a thing.)
As soon as I can find a library, I will be tearing into this book - I'm unsure whether to be amused or terrified by the God of the Internet. I trust Neil Gaiman though; it seems fabulous!
....and it is available at the local library! I will probably have it done by Thursday.
