You Came Back!
Hi all!
Remember how about two weeks ago I said I'd be gone for a week? Well, the transition back to the real world was. . . harder than I expected (waking up at 4:30 every morning takes a toll). But I'm back now.
It was an interesting week. I discussed Shakespeare with a college student, helped restore a creek, tried to describe my history teacher to a priest, discussed the nature of the universe, and made an enemy out of someone I will have to go to school with for the next two years. Also, I sat in a dark room staring at a white wall for about four hours every day. I think I'm mostly recovered.
I'm going to go read what I've missed now. Please ask me questions/just talk to me. I've missed you all.
~Key
It's good to see you again, Key! Have some chocolate to help you on your academic journey. *hugs* I'm very glad you're here again (real life can be so tedious, can't it?). Many happy returns, my friend!

Real life has been a mix of tedious and confusing. We had a week that wasn't school and wasn't spring break, but combined the worst aspects of each. I'm on spring break now, though, so at least I know what I'm dealing with now.
You Came Back!
Straight from the show's wiki.
*glomp*
Sorry, that was undignified.
Anyway, any particularly interesting stories you feel like sharing? I'd be especially interested in hearing about the creek.
The creek was gorgeous. It had been straightened out by miners in the 19th century, so it was full of sediment and a terrible habitat for fish to live in. The farm was thinking of restoring it for a while, but the clincher was when they found salmon spawning in it-- somehow. So they rerouted the river to its original course based on old maps drawn before it was rerouted the first time, and they piled up logs into specific shapes that provided the most protection for salmon, and they replanted native plants along the banks, and it was beautiful.
All I did was pull up weeds. :P Mostly hemlock and thistles. It was fun, though. I got to use a giant digging fork and a hori-hori, which I believe is Japanese for "big knife that's part saw for ripping up plants by their roots." I don't get to handle large slightly-dangerous things often and went on a mild power trip.
Teach me your ways, Wise One.
That sounds like a very cool project to participate in. In fact, I'm a little envious. I've always had a certain fondness for small waterways. Streams and creeks and babbling brooks, they always sound so soothing.
Well, unless the local fauna have something to say about it.
Hmm, I don't believe I've ever heard of that particular tool. Upon Googling, however, I can see where it would come in handy.
I am slightly unsure how one goes on a power trip while weeding, though.
Once you've worn a pillow, yelled at your best friend, and dumped fruit juice on yourself, all in front of fifty or so people, and been praised as showing depth of thought for it, you can find dignity in anything.
I'm not sure how one goes on a power trip while weeding either, but I did it. I suppose you are ripping plants out of the ground. You are in charge of which live and which die. The only book you've had access to all week is Othello. And so on.
Let loose from the noose, and all.
Welcome!
You sound like you've had some fabulous adventures. I'm most curious about the dark room - white wall one.
Especially how you managed to figure out the colour of the walling in a dark room.
Cat vision, I suppose.
Out of the sight!
Just dimly lit. It was like being outside under a full moon. Four full moons, actually. There were four big round lamps hanging from the ceiling which looked very much like moons.
I asked you this in the Shipfest thread, but then it fell off the front page. May I show non-PPC people the Iximax/Kaitlyn fic you wrote?
Sorry,
Key
*picks up Iximax the mini-Boarder* Give her back to Iximaz, OK? I think she'd want to know if one of her minis went missing.
... I read that as 'may I show PPC people'.
I thought there was Ixilyn fic I hadn't seen yet.
But now my heart is sad instead. :(
