The state of the IRC by

So as some of you may not even know, we have an IRC room on the Sorcery server. There used to be a thriving community, easily rivaling the activity of the board, only at a faster speed. There also used to be a link to said IRC room up top with all the other important links.
Now we have no mods, no link, and maybe three people (including myself) who actually visit with any regularity. Unless people want to try to revitalize it (which I would be all for, it was fun as heck and I made all of my current best friends there), I vote we close it down. I think the community should, obviously, have a say in this so I figured I't put this up here. -

I was present (sort of) in some of the IRC's livelier days, and I'd absolutely love to see that come back. If it means we can get a fraction of that activity again, then I'm happy to commit to being there more often and contributing to a more active conversation.

Yes, there did. I took it down all of two weeks ago, after being repeatedly told that it was entirely abandoned, and that the claim on the top of the Board - more prominent than any link other than those to TOS and the Constitution - that you could talk to people there was now a flat-out lie.
The IRC isn't empty because no-one knew it was there. It's empty because, for whatever reason, no-one thought it was worth spending time in.

I didn't know when it got taken down, but honestly, I'm still in favor of just getting rid of the IRC because it's been abandoned far longer than the link has been gone. Probably because most of the regulars decided they wanted nothing to do with the PPC anymore.

I'm in favor of revitalizing as well. by

Like Des, I've been in similar chatrooms with Boarders before, and it's always been fun. I think the IRC would be a neat way to socialize with Boarders who maybe don't post as much; plus, it'll feel more like a real conversation than back-and-forth on a message board.
Do you think that if a few people commit to spending time on there regularly, and others begin popping in, it might take off on its own?

It would take a few who were willing to be conversational, though. Usually when i'm in there (which isn't as frequent lately) it's just me and Tomash and occasionally NiviusLuna (whose name I probably misspelled), and we don't talk much unless someone else shows up.

Well, I'm in there sometimes... But usually it's just automated pings and no one talks. I had a lot of fun in the IRC, but I'm not sure how we'd resurrect it. The thing about the IRC is, I don't know if having Assigned IRC-People would work to bring it back - I feel like something like the chat needs to happen more or less organically, but. Well. Certainly I don't have better ideas.

Tomash is always there.
I used to check in occasionally, but I never saw anything other than Tomash.
Just... there. -

I opened the IRC. This is what I saw. Did somebody order an extra serving of crickets and tumbleweeds?

I'll have to watch again.
And I congratulate you for picking up Dresden Files. Wait ultil you read the 10th for the DFRPG Core books, and the twelvth for the extension. Of course, all of them are totally worth it. -

I picked up Storm Front in October 2014 in London and swallowed in a few days. I've been procrastinating re: getting the rest. Is there an omnibus version? That'd be much more practical.
Anyway, I'll continue with the journal; the more data we have, the more informed the decision will be. -

The first one covers the three first tomes, the three other only two books, leading you up to Tome 9. If you're ready to try it, all of them are available in Kindle, Ebooks, etc, though. There is also one book collecting short stories.

I'm having fun communicating with a few Boarders via similar means; I'm all in for revitalising the IRC. The problem is that I pop my head in and see tumbleweed. It's a self-perpetuating problem, it seems, and it's probably made worse by time zones.

I'd go on and see very few or no people.
If it could be revitalized, I think it would be quite interesting. It's also a cool idea to begin with--chatting with Boarders in, say, doc chats while betaing is always very interesting. On the other hand, I've never really been involved in it, and think other people should make that call.
