Let's try something that combines the PPC and sharing music at the same time!
Here's how it goes.
Share one (or a few) songs. Ideally with a link to Youtube or something.
Someone (not you) replies with who (or what) they think that song should be uses for, PPC wise. Then they offer a couple songs as well for others to pin on.
However! Several people can reply about the same song!
For instance, say someone who is most definitely not a July links The Phoenix by Fall Out Boy.
July comes along and says "I think this should be used for Dafydd." Perhaps a July cites a lyric as evidence!
Another person, who is not July in a most excellent hat comes along and says, about the same song "How about the Aviator, too." This person who is still definitely not July also cites a lyric!
Both of them offer songs in return, and other people come along and do the same thing.
There's only one rule, though! You cannot give your own characters for a song!
Makes sense?
Anyways, to start off with, here are a couple songs:
The Phoenix by Fall Out Boy, because I already had the html there.
The Pretender by Foo Fighters.
And How Far We've Come by Matchbox 20.
Not sure any of these would work in a fanmix; just wanted to share some songs/videos I like.
"Oscar Wilde" by Company of Thieves
"Going Under" by Evanescence
(Evanescence: not just for bad songfics!)
"The Kill" by Thirty Seconds to Mars (Warning in the music video for blood imagery, due to Kubrick! The Shining references.)
One of them is so obvious, I'm gonna be surprised if somebody doesn't associate it with that person.
"Almost Human" by Aurelio Voltaire.
"Mr. Pinstripe Suit" by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy.
"Red Like Roses (Part II)" by Jeff and Casey Lee Williams.
"Halfman's Song" by Gavin Dunne AKA Miracle of Sound.
"La Bomba" by Ricky Martin
"Almost Human" - This sounds like Diablos to me! He's barely on the Wiki; I'll have to fix that. But anyway, Diablos is an AU version of the DIA's Irvine who wound up in the PPC one day. He tried to insert himself into the lives of our Irvine and his acquaintances, but his origins* and rather villainous demeanor set everyone off their ease. He eventually became a danger to the group, all while acting like he was the victimized one. Hence:
What did I ever do to you
That you should treat me this way?
Is it really such a crime
For an angel to speak his mind?
. . .
What did I ever do so wrong
That you should cast me from grace
Though I love to rule in Hell here
How I miss the taste of Heaven
And of course, the repetition of "I'm just like you."
"Mr. Pinstripe Suit" - I'm guessing this is the obvious one you were alluding to. This is the Mysterious Somebody: Voodoo = the Force, and the way Mr. Pinstripe Suit strolling into town all swag-ly matches the MS's rise to power in HQ. Plus, the MS was keeping all kinds of secrets from the PPC—he's "got the answers we all wanna know."
"Red Like Roses Part II" - Ugh, first I need to go listen to Part I. *Is reminded he's multiple seasons behind in Red Vs. Blue*
Anyway. Since these seem to be canon characters singing to each other, it's a little tricky assigning the lyrics a PPC meaning. It's mostly calling to mind the relationship between the Reader and the Aviator, from what I've read about it. Haven't been keeping up with modern PPC stuff while I work on the archive, so my info may be off.
"Halfman's Song" - I would say this was a bit of an anthem for Mary Sues, but I think it's just a little too self-aware of the narrator's faults. (There are some who are born distinguished/There are some who are raised in praise/But me I was always the last in line) It's definitely got the themes of envy for canon and manipulative tactics down, though.
Beware, beware of the words I twist
I am small but my reach is long
. . .
The land is a blooming orchard
With fruits so juicy and ripe
With a clink of a coin loose the lion’s loin
. . .
Molding puppets from their minds of clay
I’m no man of honor
Myself is my true king
"La Bo—seriously? You're just being mean, now. This is literally a song about dancing. Oh, wait, no. This is "Bomba," not "Bamba." Huh.
Haven't kept up on my Spanish, but this first stanza is mostly familiar. A drink that changes your life, something drives you madly delighted . . . "smile water?" Blah blah blah, it's Bleepka, obviously.
BLEEEEEEPKAAAAAA
—doctorlit tiene una poca de gracia por él y por ti.
*Considering our Irvine is a copy of the Final Fantasy VIII canon, and Diablos is literally just an evil version of him/them, do you suppose he hails from the Mirror Multiverse? If he's a copy of an evil Irvine Kinneas, aka an FFVIII where Squall's group are the antagonists, that seems to match what we know of Master Who, where the Daleks were protagonists.
I personally feel like The Pheonix (love FOB by the way, ahhh) is pretty indicative of the PPC as a whole; it's super pumped-up-y, perfect Sue Slayage Jams. . .the lyrics translate to the PPC really well, too. For example, "we can take the world back from a heart attack" thing really hits a chord with me regarding the whole saving the word world thing. :P
My own music recs:
Broken Bells' new single "It's That Talk Again"
Choice lyrics: "Another chance for me to learn
Another bridge will have to burn
It's not about an eye for an eye
Because the normal rules, they don't apply"
And in the same vein, one of my favorite Danger Mouse songs (he's half of the Broken Bells duo) "Two Against One"
Choice lyrics: "Make no mistake I don't do anything for free and
I keep my enemies closer than my mirror ever gets to me"
"And if your foot soldiers, syncophants and yes man
For them to break into the middle of this little plan
Then they should plan to hear me say that I wont play around
But wait anyway I planned a plan to drown them"
"It's That Talk Again" - To my mind, this calls up chronic FicPsych patients (Jeanine Guiles, Chelsea Miller, etc.) The early lines are the psychiatrist trying to nurse the agent's mental health back, with the agent resisting:
I never meant for this to last
We turn around, a year has passed
And now you've got these thoughts in your head
You never heard a word I said
It's that talk again
The chorus is the patient fighting treatment, afraid to face whatever sent them there:
When all I have to say
Would fill your heart with pain
So let's just walk away
The last verse is the former partner visiting with their friends/current partner, being supportive of the patient's recovery.
I see you in the crowd with your friends again
...
It never really ends
I might have a girl on my arm again
Then you'll want to weave and pretend we never met
But don't do it, don't do it
It's that talk again
"Two Against One" - A lot of the lines here remind me of the "clashing mindsets" dynamic the Flowers like to use in partnering people.
I keep my enemies closer than my mirror ever gets to me
And if you think that there is shelter in this attitude
Wait til you feel the warmth of my gratitude
—doctorlit means to sign his posts from now on, but keeps forgetting.
No, they're not pretenders themselves, but they helped expose how the Mysterious Somebody and his henchmen were all pretenders keeping the PPC in the dark.
"Keep you in the dark, you know they all pretend. Keep you in the dark, and so it all began."
Anyway, my suggestions are:
"Shakin' All Over" makes me think of brainwashed canons being forced into a 'ship from an author wraith's influence.
When you move in right up close to me
That's when I get the shakes all over me
...
Just the way that you say goodnight to me
Brings that feelin' on inside of me
"See, the Conqu'ring Hero Comes" - For some reason, my brain is adamant that this played ironically over the Master Who Daleks rescuing HQ from the Macroviruses.
"Idiot Control Now" - This makes me think of the line-up of vehicles DoSAT keeps. (We've seen the spaceships; I figure they must have road-based stuff, too.) The things those vehicles must see/be used for when agents are using them on missions . . . Not to mention how some agents must treat them!
Steady as a goat
We're flying over trout
Ghetto down the highway
At the speed of light
Definitely, DEFINITELY the charging and assassination. Expecially the way agents like to taunt Sues. "We are temporary" followed immediately with "WHAT IF I SAY I'M NOT LIKE THE OTTERS OTHERS!"
And a dump of songs!
Impetus from BIT.TRIP RUNNER
The Writing's On the Wall by OK Go
Crazy by Gnarls Barkley
Give Me Your Eyes by Brandon Heath (Yes I mostly picked this video because it starts with "just wait for about 10 seconds" onscreen)
I can just imagine this one playing when a Suethor or a recruited Sue finally realize how much harm they have done to canon and they want to atone for this.
All of those optical illusions make it look like something out of HQ's Escher Room!
As for me, this is what I've got:
Fortunate Son by Creedence Clearwater Revival
The Magnificent Seven by the Clash
Peril by Martin O'Donnell and Michael Salvatori
... for modern PPC in general.
Just the title of the song... we've come so far from the early days.
We started as just a gimmicky little corner of the internet.
Now we're a community, building a massive, interweaved world.
The Vengeful One by Disturbed
Drop Pop Candy, originally by Reol and Giga-P (this cover by JubyPhonic and Kuraiinu)
Shatter Me by Lindsey Stirling and Lzzy Hale
I can just imagine this playing when an angent snaps, takes a flamethrower and goes "argue" with the Flowers about the Duty.
And now for the next salvo :
-Maze of Life by Yumi Kawamura, Shihoko Hirata for the song and Shoji Meguro for the composition.
-Unbreakable Tie by Lotus Juice and Asami Izawa
-I Need a Villain by O.D.I.L. and the Flander's Company.
The video, the lyrics about the dark biker who is calling himself "Dark Messiah"... He snapped, completly.
...even though it means admitting I ship Kayleigh/Salamander. (Poor Sal.)
The song definitely has the sort of cheerfulness I associate with Kayleigh with some of the random.
Geek in the Pink. Jason Mraz.
Knuckle Down by Man Man.
*drops it and runs*
"SAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-" Kayleigh paused for breath. "-AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-" Another pause. "-AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL!"
A very long silence, and then:
"... yes?"
"SAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-"
"Yes, Kayleigh, I got that part."
"Oh, right. Sheepish grin. Ahem: WE GOT FANART!"
"... say that again."
"Fanart! Waves sheet of paper in the air. Look! Oh, no, wait. Um... listen!"
Salamander cocked his head. "... you're crumpling a bit of paper up."
"Right! It's our fanart!" Kayleigh scrutinised the picture. "And it's perfect. The way the straight lines complement the curves, the subtle play of colour and shade, the dedicated attention to detail..."
"... Kayleigh."
"Mm?"
"Is there anything in the picture apart from your mace?"
~
It's Kayleigh. She's gonna Kayleigh.
That is amazing. ^_^
hS
I am glad you liked it!
Aaand that it thrilled Kayleigh. Yes. Definitely that. Alas that Sal can't see it.
(While working on it and showing people occasionally: "Who's that supposed to be?" "Can't you tell because of the mace?"
And then after: "Where did she pull that out from? I can't say that on the board!" "Hammerspace. No, really." "That is The Question and Answer in universe. Usually before getting it to the skull.")
Also, if you're breaking the fourth wall again-
You know what maybe I should not do the thing.
Congrats on somehow succeeding at finding the thing, though admittedly at this point it's both past and future and also largely by default of no one else making a run for it.
*checks*
I think it's the video that sells it - all that stilted, unnatural formalism.
Option 1: Constructive Summer by The Hold Steady
Option 2: New Born by Muse
Option 3: Get Better by Frank Turner
I can't help but thinking about Third Aviator here, I can just imagine her fueling her cold facade with Yang's snark. Besides, there is only so much agents who literally burned here ^^.
Next salvo :
-Backside of the TV by Shihoko Hirata, and the complete lyrics here
-Human by Gabrielle Aplin
-More Than One Heart by by Shoji Meguro (composer) Benjamin Franklin (lyrics) and by Yumi Kawamura (vocals.
-I May Fall by Jeff and Casey Williams
That sounds like an agent with high glitter levels, on the cusp of being Sued.
Anyway, more songs.
Onibi/Demon Flame/Will-o'-the-Wisp by Masa-P (WARNING: DISTURBING)
Don't Drink the Water by the Dave Matthews Band
Hide and Seek by Lizz (original Korean artist unknown; also disturbing)
The clip and the lyrics make me think of a Sue tracking a canon character for remplacement/possession.
Et maintenant pour quelque chose de commplètement différent :
-Qui on Devient by Alexandre Poulin.
-Où Le Vent Souffle by Alexandre Poulin (bis). (Only video I found sorry).
-Au Grand Jamais by Bensé.
For DoGA. The reasons are obvious.
You think by now, that I would have learned
Not to play with fire if I don't wanna get burned
But I'm a pyromaniac
And your veins are full of gas
You're burning higher, higher
I'm storming this WILDFIRE!!
Anyway, new song selection.
Hibikase/Resonate by Reol and Giga-P
Angel with a Shotgun by the Cab
Babylon by Gemini Syndrome
For Tacitus. Lyrics, I think?
One: UNIT Rocks
Two: All For One
Three: Concerto for two harpsichord and orchestra, BWV 1060
For agents gearing up for a mission, or just about to take down a Sue/Possessed Canon/opponent. It just sounds like a song that plays right before evil butt is kicked solidly into the ground.
Now...
This Means War - Avenged Sevenfold
Out of the Shadows - Sarah McLachlan
Mercy - Hurts
Would fit a sci-fi mission's establishing shot extremely well, particularly the opening. If I had to pick a continuum, I'd say Mass Effect. Good stuff.
More options:-
Colonialist Legacies: Vietnam (War Theme) by, er, Antti Valakainen. I think.
Steredenn: Steredenn by Zander Noriega
Shovel Knight: No Sense Running by SuperSquare
Yeah, bit of a theme this time round. =]
For any mission set in the Dynasty Warriors continuum.
Apropos DW...
-Dynasty Warriors 4 OST: The Wall of Fate
-Might Morphin' Power Rangers opening theme
-Dynasty Warriors 5 OST: Great Red Spirit
Bonus song!
-Dynasty Warriors 6 OST: Lü Bü's Theme
