Though the fact that I like it should be pretty obvious, considering I'm the board's CCS specialist?...
Namely the "Magical Girl AU". I introduce you to... Pretty Plot Continuum Protectors!
Wherein... actually you know what, not very much changes at all, between the continuance of there still being Flowers using (generally) teenaged girls for the work, lots of charges and fancy speeches against the bad guy of the week, and so on.
Of course, there are probably some... additions some might find questionable (after all, Magical Girl universes do have a natural high glitter content, and awkward crushes on boys and such), but it's clearly a great idea!
Fighting against bad guys in the name of love (of canon) and justice is totally a Magical Girl thing!
Here's some artwork.
First up, the Aviator:
One of my own, Library:
..Err.
Well, I did say this was a Magical Girl AU, didn't I? Sorry, Nesh.
Aaand sorry Huinesoron.
Actually I might not be sorry at all, and will endeavor to send this one to your wife if she doesn't find out on her own through you.
For those of you who do not want to go through the trials of trying to do the designing and drawing on your own, here's a Sailor Moon Senshi Maker.
-July, who mighta traumatized herself a bit with this one, actually.
I'm not totally happy with it, especially "Shania". And it would be nice if there was a choice of proper weapons. But this will have to do.
:3
Modified Zebbie-Zeb a bit and genderflipped Ave. yes I know it's a magical girl AU but the temptation was too great shhh
So much shining. So much what. It's just perfect, but Zeb really takes the cake here.
I assume the thing in the Aviator's hand is this AU's version of a sonic screwdriver ?
Sailor Sunflower Official
(No, I'm not going to apologise for it!)
This would be the SO ? On one hand, it perfectly fits the setting, but on the other, imagining him like this ... *go in order to drown my brain in Bloffee*
...but face and hair don't say villain. I guess that makes sense for a Flower, doesn't it?
-Phobos
because I'm not really a Magical Girl fan. But the grey outfit was because the SO wears grey suits, and the green skin suggested a plant's stem.
As for the face, I figured a Magical Girl would be cheeky rather than outright sarcastic, so went with that.
But it's good to know the end result works.
"Uh, I guess you're the... villain who gets redeemed about halfway through the third season-"
"Oh, forget it."
Is the Pokémon AU still a thing? Or are you in the midst of researching to find appropriate themes for the remaining gyms; it is clear that you put a lot of thought behind them.
I want everyone to like their Gyms, is the thing; not just because being a Gym Leader is hella rad, but because it's the kind of Gym they didn't know they wanted, based on things they love. That takes work and thought, and don't even get me started on balancing the movesets. =]
Thank you for the effort, and I will be awaiting the remaining Gyms.
Ahahahahahahahaha-excuse me-hahahahahahahahaha!
That is absolutely brilliant. If I had any idea how to write a Magical Girl, I would be sending Dafydd to meet her immediately.
Yes, that is an invitation for someone to give me pointers.
(In the even that you're completely bonkers and want to draw more pictures, I'll make a note here that Constance has two pet fire lizards to draw on... ^~)
And since I'm not supposed to just talk about myself: I love the difference in poses between the Aviator and Library. You've really pulled off the dynamism of the Aviator, and the 'prim and proper' Library.
Assuming that's what you were going for. ^^
hS
You should do so!
Magical Girls just have extra friendship. And such. This is of course post-transformation. Otherwise would just be... female!Dafydd honestly. However you decide that would work.
But yes this was completely why I needed bleepka and had to find some other places other than the wiki for references for what Maglor specifically looks like. All your fault.
(Hahaha. We will see.)
Library has no interest in dynamic posing. So you aren't wrong.
-July
All you need is a little friendship.
And it gets even better! (Second one is spoilers for Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS.)
It always gives me some karmic sastifaction. Take THAT, Quattro! That will teach you not to mess with Vivio!
*somehow*
Anyways, writing tips for magical girls... well, it varies depending on the overall tone of the series. Pretty Plot Continuum Protectors! and the sequels, Fuwa Fuwa Pretty Plot Panic!, both series of Brave Continuum Plot Defenders X, and the underrated BCPD GT, are very lighthearted in tone, having more in common with the '80s classics than anything else. Since PPCP!-verse Huinesoron is a protagonist-ish character, you have to write them as brave, determined, and kind of a ditz on occasion, but fundamentally good-hearted.
Filtering Agent Huinesoron through that will be... interesting. >=]
Also, for the benefit of Sailor Moon fans: Dark General Notarite.
That is all. =]
Loving the series titles. ^_^
hS
... it's Dafydd, based primarily on the arm thing (it does rather scream 'mystical replacement construct' at me). But I am open to being proved wrong.
Not that there's that much difference between Dafydd and A!hS...
hS
Oh. Oh, I am the unsmart rn. =]
It would also make sense that she's using flaming arrows that kinda-sorta match the DOGA flashpatch, too. Derp.
In which case, you've got to play up certain aspects. Dafydd is Feanorian, so Davisu-chan is easily distracted by shiny things; Dafydd likes burning stuff, so Davisu-chan IS FUELLED THE PURIFYING FLAMES OF A LOVING HEART!!!, and so on. =]
Hence my own uncertainty. :)
[Scribbles notes]
hS
I had to look elsewhere.
Okay, that was hilarious! :D Also, this dollmaker is pretty neat... Introducing genderbent Senshi VJ and William! :D
It's funny as hell, and your pictures are great free-hand drawings, and the way you did Nume and Ilraen... I'm pretty sure HE'll be downing his Bleepka, though.
It could be presomptuous from me, but let me contribute with something who is an indispensable part of Magical Girl universes, an opening : Card Captor Sakura, I watched it when I was a kid, It was a really cool anime.
Though the fact that I like it should be pretty obvious, considering I'm the board's CCS specialist?...
Sakura was so good in my opinion that I asked my mom to record the episodes I could not see when they were airing, and this opening is just awesome.
I didn't read all of your missions, but Sergio's hero streak and Corolla's... let's say personality quirks. A pity they've retired, but it's a good thing they did alive and well.
She's still around in DoSAT (and occasionally on the field, see below), it's Nikki who will retire alongside Sergio at the end of Blank Sprite. (Which, by the way, is still not over so there will be some more of them! Not to mention that I can always write more missions set before their retirement)
I mean, now Corolla's in DosaT, opportunities for killing and eating Sues won't be as numerous as before, though your co-write with Ixi and Des was funny (I hope she'll can create a new M.O.O.O.). I will be waiting for this new Blank Sprite then, and we'll see if you find missions to do that will imply Sergio and Nikki again.
And you're pretty awesome at that speciality, let me tell you. By the way, since I just got back after months of not checking anything PPC-related, do you have any new stuff up?
I'm currently at Chapter 4 of Blank Sprite (Chapter 5 is in the works, but for reasons I'll have to wait a bit before publishing), and I partecipated with Corolla in this:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1D3IJGyEfp5hS-Qt2b5xLHp-nffgRP92dFqPrkk0ymlg/edit
There aren't many of us here. Up until now I think there was just me and Sergio. Seems like we have even more in common than we though! * high-fives *
Oh gosh, this brings back so many happy memories. I also watched it when I was little. Thank you, thank you SO MUCH for posting this.
However, I didn't see them for a long time, and I didn't see all of them either. My most recent contact with the Clampverse was Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles, and it was not really yesterday.
That sort of thing tends to happens when someone joins and they turn to be a member of a fandom that doesn't have that much a presence here on the Board. When I joined, I was the fourth Nanoha fan and also as previously noted, probably the second CCS one. I can't imagine how much excited I could possibly get if someday a Boarder joins and they turn out to be a Kana Little Sister fan too, for example.
I saw the Portuguese dubbed version quite a long time ago, back when I was in elementary school. A few years ago I watched the subbed version and the movies and read the manga.
Oh boy, Tsubasa... I won't get into spoilers here because I don't know how far you are into it, but by Clow, that series can really screw your mind when it wants to. Did you know that things got so confusing in there that even the writers have admited that they will need to go back and read it because even they are confused sometimes?
I mean, Clamp wanted connect every single one of their worlds here, they used temporal loops if I understood this right, so no wonder it's a complicated story. Don't worry about spoilers, I found the whole series in a public library.
Complicated doesn't even begin to cover it. Oh, the temporal loops... that part got so complicated that Clamp sometimes broke the rules of their own time travel system.
This is the kind of stuff that the Timey Wimey Ball trope was made for. As tropers often say when taking about this series, putting what is confusing about it into words is in itself extremely confusing.
I am glad you have the entire series at your disposal, but how much have you actually read of it? Because if you aren't even past the first half yet, I would rather not spoil WHY it is so complicated. Plus there is the fact that this conversation is a public one on the Board and I would rather not unwittingly spoil it for anyone else. If you don't mind the spoilers, I guess we could take this over to e-mail.
I read the whole series, so yeah, I know how much this can be messed up. But the story is so great, it's totally worth it.

Just including the official spoiler tag so we don't accidently spoil this for someone else. That would be just awful.
So, what about that situation with Cloney being retconned as R!Syarion's father? I still don't quite get that part.
Or whole thing about Acid Tokio being the past of Clow County, either.

So, the way I understand it, after their deaths, both of the clones were taken away by Yuuko, who resurrected them, with their memories, in another world, a world that was NOT CCS world. The price was Clow Reed's magic. They become parents of Tsubasa, then became aware that their son was actually their Syaoran when Clone!Sakura was entrusted with CCS!Sakura's staff as a way for paying for their son's world-jumping.
Acid Tokyo seems a lot simpler in my opinion, there you have a post-apocalyptic world who evolved in his own way after the passage of the protagonists, with a feather left to purify the reservoir's water, enabling their survival, and this feather is found again in Clow Country's ruins.
Yep there is some major mind-screwing here.
P.S.: *send the mini-kijis Syarion, Acid Tokio and Clow County to the OFUTRC*

Okay, so maybe Acid Tokyo is not THAT mind-screwing. Sort of. But it still is pretty confusing at first chance.
Determining Tsubasa Li's genetic make-up is also really mind-screwing, though we can probably just chalk it up to Clamp failing at biology. Just head over to the Fridge Logic section of the Tv Tropes page for Tsubasa and read the first three spoiler filtered portions to see what I mean.
It was really horrid, you could almost see the logic unravel itself, as if it was putting itself out of misery.
The only thing I can find more illogic is that one DF badfic I pointed out, and it's only worst because of the beige prose and the bad plagiat. If we could see the way time plays out in this mess, it would be over.
The only worse thing is the Fridge Squick described in the Fridge Horror section of that same page. Read the filtered parts at our own risk, you will need an extra-strong dose of Bleepka if you do.
Have Pokémon's Hebrew opening.
Or, if you want Magical Girls, there is a White Devil in the woods (mildly NSFW).
I never heard Hebrew before, and it felt funny seeing this old opening with this language.
The other one is already bookmarked, now I'll have to add Nanoha to an ever-growing list of things to see.
And we are also talking localized versions, I can't let this discussion pass without sharing The Brazilian version of Sailor Moon's or Digimon's.
And since the post that started this was about CCS, Have that one too!
And thanks for sharing Nanoha's. I can't get enough of watching it or its openings.
Have the Hebrew opening!
Ahh, insta-nostalgia. Amusingly enough, there was a guy in my course that could imitate the singer perfectly. He was funny.

"Question: The transformation scenes in Pretty Cure are very long, so why don’t the bad guys attack the girls in the meantime?"
"Even when I was little, I was thinking 'Hey! Attack them now!' I found this odd as well, so I watched the transformation scene many times. And what I noticed is, when the Pretty Cures yell 'Dual Aurora Wave!' and transform, a rainbow-colored column of light shoots up from the ground, going BOOM! And then the Pretty Cures levitate, and go up into the air. Based on this, I believe the protagonists of Pretty Cure are being held up in the air by the power of light.
"When we think of light, we usually think it heats up things or lights up things. But in reality, light has the power to hold up things as well. When the sun is beating down on us in the summer, the human body is being pressed downwards by the sun beams with a force of 2/100,000g. But this is only about a one-hundred of the weight of a mosquito, so no matter how hot it is, we don’t feel that sunlight is heavy.
"So that means the light holding them up must be extremely strong. If we assume that the two Pretty Cures each weigh about 45kg and do some calculations... It means the light during the transformation must have the energy of 2,100,000,000kW per 1m2. While the entirety of power that Japan is capable of generating is only 100,000,000kW. So they’re using 21 TIMES the amount of energy the whole of Japan can generate.
"So what would happen if a bad guy jumped in to try to sabotage their transformation? He would EVAPORATE INSTANTLY.
"DEATH AWAITS ANYONE WHO DARES TO DISRUPT A PRETTY CURE TRANSFORMATION."Am I the only one who thinks a Tuxedo-Mask-esque Falchion who doesn't actually do anything to contribute would be hilarious, btw?
I feel like I should look away, but I can't. My mind is blown. Were it not late and people nearby trying to sleep, I would be on my feet applauding.
Dangit, I gotta get to drawing now. Gah, why did I think it was a good idea to have three agent pairs and various non-agent extras?!
Though now I'm trying to imagine Danny as a magical girl....
As memory serves, I actually came up with a Magical Girl AU for the PPC many a moon ago. I rather like this one better since it's got those completely wonderful Magical Girl!Agents.
I remember 'cause I kinda wanted to use the setting, but never managed to get around and actually write anything...
I don't remember much of the details, but I think instead of a charge list there was a Sailor Moon-style [snappy summary of what the Sue did] followed by "In the name of canon, we shall exorcise you/kill you!" or something, and there were purifying attacks instead of exorcisms. Also I think the Flowers were fairy princesses and CADs/Consoles/What-have-you were cutesy mascots.
Specifically, the 2012 archive.
It looks like you wrote 2 chapters in the tale of the Magical Plot Protectors (the archive seems to have done something funny to the formatting, so I've tried to correct it quickly).
First up:
Well, I've always been a fan of the Magical Girl genre, so...
Magical Plot Protector Agents Anne and Emma~
Anne was sleeping in her and her partner's shared room at the Protector's Garden, an interdimensional fortress that served as the hub of the Organisation, run by the Flower Princesses. She rolled over and had just gotten comfortable when...
"DI-IIIIIIIIIING!" squeaked out the small, furry animal sitting on the desk.
Anne moaned and turned to face it, when it spoke in an annoyingly high-pitched voice. "Protectors! There's a disturbance in Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha! A Sue-wraith's possessed Momoko Takamachi and made her a magic-phobic abusive mother!"
Emma frowned. "Oh, for crying out loud. Anne, get out of bed," Anne growled and stood up. "You really should be nicer to CAD. Without him, we wouldn't be able to find out where the Stus were, or teleport, or anything!"
"Yeah, thanks for the exposition, Emms. I just wish that the Princesses had thought to make them a little less annoying. How'd you even figure out it's name, anyways?"
"CAD--Canonical Assistance Doodad. Where're the transformation thingies?" asked Emma. Anne grabbed a pair of small, black discs, each with a green cactus engraved on the front, and tossed one of them to Emma. The two girls said in unison, "Magical Guardians, Canon Protection Powers, Set Up!" In a flash of light, the two were dressed in black, frilly dresses. The black discs were now on chokers, and the two girls looked, well, like stereotypical Mahou Shoujo whose outfits had been dipped in black paint. The large gun and sword that Anne and Emma (respectively) were holding looked somewhat less stereotypical. Emma grinned. "OK, CAD! Open the portal!"
"Why do you have to be so cheerful about this?" muttered Anne.
CAD started to glow brightly, and within moments the glow had expanded into a bright-blue circle, with a slightly darker spot in the middle where the animal floated. Anne and Emma held their weapons carefully, and walked into the fic.
And secondly:
The two Magical Girls hid behind a couch while Emma recorded charges. "OK, we're ready to go! CAD, set up the Wraith Extraction Spell!" she chirped.
CAD nodded in assent, and opnede its mouth, reciting at high speed:
"MynameisTakamachiNanohaIwassupposedtobeanordinarythirdgraderbutasmallincidenthappened--"
As CAD recited the opening narration of the anime, glowing words began to flow out of his mouth. They quickly formed a net around the two canons, though Nanoha's was considerably more comfortable-looking than Momoko's bonds.
The two girls jumped up and yelled, "Sue-wraith! For the crimes of cruelty against the English language, messing up the relationships between Canon Characters, and almost replacing Momoko Takamachi, in the name of the Protectors, we will exorcise you!"
They struck poses in front the two canons. Momoko had just enough time to look confused before the canon recitation forced the Wraith out of her. "i dont get it shouldnt I be mahou shoujo themed t--" \*BANG!\*
Anne blew the smoke away from her gun. "I don't get why they think that we'll let them monologue--we don't really care why they're doing this." Emma shrugged as Momoko and Nanoha woke up.
"Ugh--what happened?" asked Momoko.
Emma looked at CAD. "Would you mind?" The small animal nodded and floated over to the two canons. Its eyes glowed for a moment, before flashing brightly.
"All done!" it squeaked.
Anne sighed. "Fi-nally. That took entirely too long. Just open the portal." CAD looked less than happy about her appreciation of it, but quickly opened the portal again. As they stepped back into their room, Emma turned back to the still-floating animal.
"Aren't you going to come down?" she asked. CAD seemed to give the impression of a smirk towards Anne, before squeaking:
"DI-IIIIIIIIIIIIIING! Protectors! There's a disturbance in Puella Magi Madoka Magica! A Gary Stu is trying to set himself up as a love interest for Mami!"
Anne groaned and buried her face in her pillow.
We also have what is possibly the only example of PPC AU Crossover fic, with this little piece that references both the Magical Plot Protectors and the TCDA:
"Princesses being the Big Goods is a well-established Magical Girl Trope!" yelled Anne, dodging the gunshots from the TCDA. "Just look at Pretty Cure!"
"Likely story!" called an Agent. "I've seen way too many Princess!Sues to believe something as fake as that!"
There may well have been other stuff too, but this is what I could find easily.
- Irish
Absolutely hilarious! July, you're amazing, this is fantastic. I think Nume is my favorite.
No bleepka required - this is absolutely fantastic.
I really wish I had an agent just so I could submit them to this somewhat questionable but totally funny treatment. Well done, July, well done.
And no, I don't need the bleepka because this is definitely something I don't want to forget, ever.
Awesome. I love it. ^_^ I love that Ilraen has a giant magical scythe, and that Nume has a long skirt. I'm a little unsure about the bun and lack of glasses, but still, much love for the unsolicited silly fanart! *hugs*
May I host the Nume & Ilraen pic on my Photobucket and display it on my site? (And, retroactively, is it okay for <a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v155/Neshomeh/PPC/PPC%20Characters/GallandSnerriby_JulyFlame.png">this pic, too? If not, I'll take it down.)
~Neshomeh
Those were the same things I was unsure about too. (Without the bun, someone's reaction was "who's the girl next to Nume?" Which changes the whole setup entirely.) Though I would suspect a female Nume to keep short hair as well. Hmm.
Magical girls don't wear glasses.
And yes, of course!
That is actually pretty hilarious. I love the arm swirlies on Dafydd's arm. It's all... Elfy. And that fire bow? Just perfect. I love it.
Now, if you excuse me, I have to endeavor to not make Magical Girl!Marvin. It is proving increasingly difficult.
I laughed so hard my roommate thought there was something wrong with me. Oh dear lord, this is beautiful.
Ave looks gorgeous, but it was Nume and Ilraen who sent me into a laughing fit. They're just so perfect. Especially the scythe for Ilraen's weapon, that was a nice touch. But... I think it was Nume rendered into this stern librarian-type figure with the severe bun that really did it.
And since Dafydd is hS as an Elf, I'm getting another fit of the giggles. 'Scuse me, need to go laugh some more.
Bravo, JF, bravo.
That was Agent!Huinesoron, not Dafydd.
...
This just makes it even funnier. :'D
