As I assume a good deal of you know, I have been threatening the board with a second permission attempt for at least a few weeks now.
Well, after some time to think it over, I've decided that I am actually not going to try for permission again.
This isn't just some spur of the moment thing to cause unnecessary drama. I've thought good and hard on this.
My reasoning is simple: I lack the maturity in skill, my writing style is too whimsical to accommodate the structured, if wacky nature of mission writing, and I just don't have the capacity to write missions on my phone.
With Christmas coming around the bend soon, I could end up with a tech upgrade; but that still leaves me hanging on the other two points. I just can't make myself think like an Agent - I think too much like SC: cynical, snarky, not-entirely-on-point, always preoccupied with other thoughts, etc.
However, this doesn't mean I won't write; I love doing MSTs. In fact, part three of my Narnia MST is almost done. So I'll definitely be doing MSTs whenever I can.
And hey: the rules do say that I can plug stories as well. I probably won't do that as much, but definitely keep an eye out if you follow me on DA.
I felt the need to let people know because I've been very talkative about permission and missions and agents for a while now, and this suddenly clicked in my head. I like READING stuff by the PPC, and I enjoy being on the board - but I don't think I can bring myself to write for the PPC. That's something for those more apt than I.
So, to summarize: I'm not going for permission, but by all means, send fics my way to MST, I'm all up for that.
Can't really say much more than that! Missions are far from the be-all-and-end-all of the PPC.
MSTs are great fun to read and write, so I'm glad you're going to continue with those! :D
The nice part about MSTs is that I can be as ridiculous as the fic I'm MSTing and not get in trouble for it.
Well, self-awareness is always good. Especially when it comes to knowing when you ought to wait and see if your skills improve.
See you around the board. :)
Just because I'm not writing doesn't mean I don't plan to keep trolling you guys.
(Ho-ho-ho-ho-HO!)
No, seriously - the Cult Of The Mission-Writer is so strong these days I'm actually impressed to see someone consciously choose not to join it. Because writing for the PPC isn't actually the heart of the community - and yet sometimes people act like it is, like you're a second-class citizen until you have attained the rank of Holder Of Permission.
On the flip side - darn, there goes the Department of WhatThe's only potential recruit. :P
hS
See, I never knew that. I was just thinking for the benefit of my skill, really.
On the other side: not necessarily, I'm sure somebody might find it interesting.
It's right behind DoI and DoGA on my list of departments to try out.
For the record? I applied for permission way back when, and then commenced to write absolutely nothing PPC-related for the better part of five years. At least. There's no pressure on you whatsoever to write PPC stuff alone - or even at all, to be honest. We don't kick people out for deciding not to go that route.
I think I said - I hope so, anyway - that quite a bit of the stuff on your Deviant Art had potential. I don't make a good agent type, either, and I know I never will. I write stuff like this, and I just can't stomach the idea of ripping someone else's story apart with an agent. But nobody's ever tried to force my hand to writing one, or anything like that. There's no reason why anyone here should feel pressured to write in a way they don't want to - so stick around, write as you will and never be afraid to plug it here*, and see where the road takes you!
Anyway, I'm glad you're sticking around, and glad you don't feel pressured or upset about this whole deal; I look forward to seeing where your works go in the future.
Because I was lost in your journal. But damn, the word worlds are singing in joy. (I especially liked how you managed not to give too many colors or other visual info in the one linked, which would fit in a very low-light environment.
Yeah, you definitely said something to that end about my stuff.
And I'm glad to know that I'm not BWEAKING DA CAHDINUL ROOL of the PPC by not writing missions.
Do you think Medical will cure broken toes?
Ow, ow, ow...
Yes, I did just use German again. I spelled bruder wrong the first time, I think...
You're still spelling it wrong. It's Bruder. In German you capitalize nouns.
Capitalizing words is a thing, you know. Like in english*.
*Yes, that's really a spelling error.
Serious question. Because spelling is usually using the wrong letter, not the wrong form of it. Typing a word like THIS isn't a spelling error, for instance, so why would This be?
I've often wondered this. It's not really spelling, punctuation, or grammar, so... what is it?
(That said... whether it's a spelling, grammar, or ultratonication error... writing Bruder with a lowercase B is still an error)
hS
THIS isn't an error if it's done on purpose (and it would be hard to type a solitary word in uppercase any other way), but This could be if you accidentally whacked the Shift key while typing, or something like that. Though, I think capitalization errors are more akin to spelling errors than anything else, even though they aren't exactly the same. In both cases, it's the wrong letter character.
And anyway, improper capitalization does create minis. {= )
(What is ultratonication? Dictionary.com doesn't know, either.)
~Neshomeh
See, there's a character on Star Trek: Voyager whose name is B'Elanna Torres, and I was wondering if B'elanna was a mini. Now I know, thanks!
Yeah, I goofed. Bruder is written/typed Bruder. :D
What continuum are you interested in? If I see something that isn't long enough for a mission, but is still bad, I'll send it to you.
I'm sure you'll write some specstacular MSTs.
Well, I'm a Jack of Many Continua - I'm good-but-not-great in a lot of them.
Here's a rough list to start though:
Tales of Vesperia
Final Fantasy 7
Kind-of-sort-of Narnia
Lost Odyssey, somewhat
Final Fantasy 13, up to a certain point
I used to be a huge Warcraft nerd - more than Kitty, once upon a time! (Scary thought, huh?)
Assassin's Creed, full stop.
There, that's a start.
And hey, you can still hang out on the Board - you wouldn't be the first PPCer to stick with being a Boarder/beta-reader/MSTer/overall chum buddy! We still love you no matter what - and who knows? Give yourself some more time, and maybe someday you will be ready! :)
But hey, at least I'll be a PROPER persnickety old coot.
