So anyone of the old guard still around, then?
I just decided to pop back after a long absence as well - nice to see another familiar face!
Oh wow! Hi! I loved OFUM, it was so good! I can't believe that you're back! Allow me to introduce myself, I'm meow139, most people call me meow. I've been lurking since December 2011, and I can't believe that the legendary Miss Cam might read this post! Welcome back! Things haven't changed... Much.
... and see your post! :D
/goes back to lurking.
Well, I'm certainly not part of the old guard, I'm more of a newish-middlish-bie, but it's nice to meet you! Your works are excellent, they really are.
Welcome, back, I guess. That's... pretty much it. I dunno what else to say...
I'll go stand in the very long line of people, who just want to tell you that we are huge fans and very honoured that you have decided to look in on the board.
I can't believe that one of the most famous Boarders (not to mention the author of the first OFU) is back. It's an honour for me.
There has been sure an interesting amount of long-lost oldbyes returning to the board lately - could it be that the next ones will be Jay and Acacia? I hope that.
And, as usual, I can't think of anything else to say.
I guess I'm a midbie, not yet got Permission, but been around since about June.
As you have clearly been told already the OFUM is brilliant, as are Minis.
So, uh hi.
I'm nowhere near as old an oldbie as hS and Neshomeh, but I remember the last time you were on the Board. I joined in 2008. I don't know if you'd remember me; I was an over-excited newbie back then who asked to take over the mini-Balrog adoptions.
In any case, it's wonderful to see you pop back onto the Board again! :D
It's good to e-meet you, I enjoyed OFUM. Would you like some fudge?
Good to see you back on the Board. I think you'd largely moved on by the time I started but I too remember you from old LJ days.
Elcalion
I just finished reading OFUM last week, actually - and a marvellous tale it was, too. I still haven't figured out what the ultimate evil is, though, unless it is something like 'it is actually whatever you imagine it to be'. Is there any more of OFUM 2 somewhere? I bet the fangirls' faces would be a picture when they see the mess the Canons made on their little escapade...
I guess I never expected to see you on the Board. Why, I'm half-expecting to see Jay and Acacia show up, now.
I would probably class myself as a new/mid-bie - I've been around long enough to get permission and write six missions, but I've not yet been here for a year.
I also thoroughly thank you for inventing minis. They are such amusing little critters, and there is so much fun to be had with them. My agents have found quite a number during their missions, and have adopted a few (who are causing shenanigans in the interlude I am currently writing).
Anyway, I'm honored to meet you, Miss Cam!
A very hearty welcome-back to you, ma'am. Have some hydrophobic water! Perfect for watering anti-plants.
I'm SeaTurtle, some midbie who has this odd fascination for the DoI.
After spending a while staring at this post in awe: Welcome back(ish)?
Maybe because I got a vibe that you are coming back too!
Maybe it's The Hobbit anticipation...
Hail and well met, Founder of SIELU!
Oooh, I wonder if the movie release will bring a bunch of people back to visit? That would be so cool!
Quick, everyone! Grab the dusters and vacuums and mops and Febreeze! And don't forget to go under the couches and behind the Ypurs!
~Neshomeh
I don't know but it would be nice. I have started reconnecting with my tolkienite past. :)
D'ya think the movie release will bring back Jay and Acacia?
What, you thought you could sneak past us by not posting your own thread? You underestimate the observative...ness of the PPC Board.
Or just of me. Those aren't actually the same thing.
Welcome back!
hS
Hah, not sure I am coming back as such, mainly just poking in. But yes, excitement over the Hobbit has kinda made me remember the good old days of LotR fandom.
I doubt I am fully returning - Real Life is too dang crazy - but it sure is nice to remember the good old days.
I am dreading the new wave of sqeeing fangirls unleashing themselves at Tolkien's much-suffering creating while all of us Old Guard who remember what life was like before the movies are too tired to fight them...
Am I actually talking to you? Is this really real?
So, as you can see, you're kinda a celebrity here. I cannot consider myself an oldbie of any kind, but after seven months here (I think? Ish? I introduced myself in May.) I no longer consider myself a newbie. That doesn't mean I can give you a warm welcome back though :).
Thanks for the welcome back.
It's nice to see the board is still getting new blood, so any newbie or middle-bie (?) is also totally cool with me.
I have been informed that saying hi is the appropriate response to seeing a member of the old order reappear. Contrary to my former beliefs, it is not squealing off into the sunset. So, hi there!
Nice to meet you, Miss Cam. I don't qualify as a member of the old guard, having only been around since August of last year, but as a fan of OFUM, I'm honoured to meet you.
Thanks :) It never ceases to amaze me that OFUM still gets the attention it does, but it's very flattering. Nice to see some new people around as well!
I do believe people were just discussing OFUM. Nice to know that Miss Cam can be summoned by a concentrated discussion of fanfiction universities. :)
Hah. It was more the LJ message I got with some questions about OFUM and the PPC that made me remember the board might still be about, but let's pretend I can be summoned by saying my name three times. It sounds scarier ;)
Much scarier. :)
It is an honor to meet you. Truly, I am not worthy.
I found the PPC through the OFUs, so I've always loved OFUM. I admire your genius in creating the format of the OFU. I may write an OFU, but I didn't come up with minis, course coordinators, or "learning through pain". You did.
I only wish I were as amazing. I look up to you, Miss Cam.
Now you're making me very Norwegian-awkward with all those compliments. But thanks, it is very flattering that a lot of people still enjoy it as much.
And I hope your OFU is going well :)
Hello, Miss Cam! I'm KittyNoodles - which you can probably see by looking at my username. Hee...
Anyway, I'm a newbie, though after... three months? Four? Eh, after several months here I don't think I'm very shiny anymore.
Anyway, yes. Hi.
(Holy cow, I'm saying hi to Miss Cam! Eeee-- also, while I'm able, may I ask if you have any pointers on writing an OFU? Or anything in general?)
And yes, I posted a few pointers in your comment thread. That's why I decided to say hi as well, since people seemed to be discussing me.
But I've heard stories, both grand and terrifying.
Hello!
Back to eating pizza, then.
(om grom nom)
Don't think I count as old guard, having joined on after you left, but I remember you fondly from LJ days (which probably have not, in fact, ended. I should start reading that f'list again).
How are things in the frigid North?
Heya - I remember you! And yes, I am still on LJ though it's a lot more quiet these days.
Things in the frigid North and frigid and snowy but mostly fine. It's Norway, we're not exactly a hotbed of action.
Welcome back. We hope you enjoy your stay with us at PPC Resort and Casino. Your usual accommodations are ready for you and there is a complimentary mint in your shower. We'll have a word with the cleaning staff about that presently.
I'm Phobos, the Betraying Betrayer Who Betrays ™ and all around nice guy.
I was late to the party, but I was on the OFUM mailing list when it was still somewhat active. I adopted Arasgorn the mini-Balrog and got the official graphic and everything. {= )
I think the oldest person who still looks in at all frequently might be Araeph, but I'm not sure. I just learned this weekend that Nenya also peeks at things sometimes (and is a fan of Minbari). We heard from Saphie a few months ago, too, telling us about the projects she and Andy are working on.
Every now and then, somebody pops up, and it's awesome. Like right now. ^_^
~Neshomeh
Aww. The days of me making sucky graphics, I remember that. Hope your mini is still behaving.
Good to hear others are around as well!
The people who have been here the longest now I think are Neshomeh, Phobos, and HS.
Nice to meet you. I've been wondering what someone from the beginning of the PPC would think of it now.
I was always more of an honorary associate than someone involved with writing the PPC, but I guess the fact that I am old and ancient gives me some special privileges ;)
I've only been around since '09. There are a fair number of people who have been around longer. It is a common mistake, actually. I tend to act like I've always been wherever I am, and people believe me.
-Phobos, who should not be believed (except on this [and that])
This feels not-right.
~Lily, who joined in '08.
I am far from being part of the Old Guard, sad to say. I think I've been part of the PPC for... lemme do the math... four and a bit months. I lurked for quite a bit longer, and I have to say that the OFUM is one of the things that really interested me in the Canon Protection Initiative as a whole when I found it at about the same time as The Original Series.
Thank you, by the way, for hosting TOS on your website; it's where I found it, and OFUM by extension, and both really helped eleven-year-old me with catching on to a few hilariously obvious (in hindsight) Sues of my own sooner than I probably would have if I hadn't learned about the pitfalls of bad fanfiction in such an entertaining way.
Thank you also for creating mini-Balrogs and the mini concept in general, as the minis I've inflicted upon my agents are the catalyst for much amusement and mayhem. So, so much amusement and mayhem. :D
Impressive amount of new people here, I have to say! It's all good.
I've almost forgotten about my website, heh. But nice to see it's still useful for people. And hey, you should have seen my first fanfic attempts - those were horrid!
I'm a middlebie! Too long to be a newbie, haven't been here long enough to be an oldbie.
What writing projects are you working on now?
I still write fanfic, mostly Once Upon a Time stuff these days. Can find anything I write on A03 (just moved OFUM there as well) and ff.net.

I've been very slow and inconsistent with streamlining my own account, and I haven't even gotten to the big seventy-five chapter monstrosity that is IAHF.
Also, being able to read OFUM in one long sitting with "view entire work"? Yes please.
Sorry - I squeed. Love your stuff and am really happy yer back. \O/
Insert the vain attempts to not be fangirlish here. Tis a pleasure and an honor to meet you.
Since I've only been here for about a year and eight months, I certainly don't qualify as part of any form of Old Guard. So, as somewhat of a middlebie, welcome back to the PPC! I hope things haven't changed too much from when you were last here. As to the very, very oldbies, I remember Saphie swinging back a while back.
Out of curiosity, are you planning to finish OFUM 2? I really enjoyed both OFUM and its sequel.
Quite a few new faces here, but certain things still seem the same here.
I lost all my OFUM2 stuff in a computer crash and RL stuff happened, so no, that story will probably remain as it is. If I do anything new with OFUM with will be a Hobbit special - I might wrap up some storylines there, I suppose.
Hello again, I suppose!
We throw horned helmets :P
I think yours gored me in the stomach.
I'm not sure I qualify for the Old Guard, to be honest... I remember emailing you once - maybe twice? - in great trepidation, but I can't actually recall seeing you on the Board...
Anyway, wow. I'm sure you've heard this 10^6^6 times before, but I'm (still!) a big fan of a lot of your LotR stories (old, I know, but I still enjoy them). So I'm going to take this opportunity to thank you for writing them. Really.
hS
(PS: Probably the oldest person we still have around - 'oldest' as in length of membership, that is - is Kaitlyn. Since I'm married to her, I have no qualms about pointing her this way in the morning. ~hS)
Your name actually look familiar, so I think I vaguely remember you and your wife :)
And I was never terribly active on the Board even back in the day. Guess I prefer to lurk in the shadows and then strike.
Can I have your autograph? Also, I think that hS is still around, but I don't know who else was part of the Old Guard.
