Come on, tell me that's not tempting enough as it is! :P
Alas, not really.
This is a game, probably a fairly quick one. There is a theme to the people I will allow at my party, and your job is to figure it out.
All you need to do is reply to this post (or my latest post in the thread), with the subject line "Can I invite X?", where X is the name of the person you want to invite. Throwing in a 'from [canon]' is useful, too, and please make it someone I can look up (ie, someone who has an article on a decent wiki somewhere).
I will either reply with 'Yes, you can!', or 'No, but you can invite' and someone else who does fit the theme. And then someone else replies with their next proposed guest.
If you think you know what the theme is, suggest a guest who meets it, and give your guess at the theme in your post. Be sure to stick it behind a spoiler block, such as this one:
Spoiler SPOILER spoiler spoilER SPOILer sPoIlEr SpOiLeR spOILer Spoilerman Does Whatever A Spoiler Can don't spoil my er How do you solve a problem like a spoiler? Spoi spoi spoi spoi spoiler SPAAAAAAAACE! Sorry about him. ~spoiler block
A name doesn't need to be accompanied by a theory - you can just suggest people to gather information. When a few people have gotten it right, I'll confirm it. :)
You can invite someone from any canon (though steer clear of real people). If there is potential for doubt about which version you're thinking of, go ahead and clarify.
So let's get this party going! Darth is feeling quite lonely right now...
hS
If he fits the theme, of course. If not, Lucio from Overwatch because somebody's gotta provide the music for this gig, right?

Yes, as several people have guessed, everyone who's invited has scars, most - but not all - on their faces. There are some borderline cases in there - is Picard scarred as a Borg? - but I did my best.
I am impressed both by how quickly the Board homed in on this - even those who didn't get it were clearly in the right ballpark (though Novastorme, I'm curious who you thought made just 'scarred' impossible; you kept trying to tack things onto it). I'm also impressed by how many people replied. I guess you are all still here after all... ;)
Also: I have never spent so long trying to find scarred characters I'd heard of. Yikes.
hS
In all seriousness, that was a very fun game (even if it concluded while I was asleep, haha).
I'm afraid I'm a bit of a sucker for these sorts of games, and I'd like to try my hand at it.
Who is forgetful, and forgot to put her name in.
Might be sensible to wait a few days, though - I don't know if people have the energy for another round yet. Or maybe they do!
hS
I was actually thinking about starting another game, too, because they're so much fun.
Yes, I think it may be a good idea to wait a while so that the front page is no longer overcrowded.
I'm going to be horribly embarrassed by my awful memory when you tell me, I'm sure. ^_^; ... Unless, Silmarils? (Is that vague enough to not be spoilery? I dunno. Maybe it's okay at this point anyway.)
My guess was something like "transformative near-death experiences." Except then Gandalf would definitely fit.
We should totally invite Frodo, though. Sam, too, I think. Maybe all the hobbits?
~Neshomeh
The seven wounds left by Fingolfin?
Plus the attack by Thorondur when he retrieved Fingolfin's body.
hS
^ Is both how I feel about forgetting that stuff, and how you misspelled Thorondor's name, creating a very handsome winged mini-Balrog. ^_~
~Neshomeh
('Thorondur' is a lovely Sindarin name meaning 'servant of eagles'. But it is not the name of the Lord of Eagles. I experience shame.)
hS
Thank you for the game! It was very fun! :)
I promise he won't kill Lord Vader... Again.
Also, can I invite Pietro Maximoff a.k.a. Quicksilver?
(Both from Marvel, Earth-616, the main continuity.)
You can invite Kylo Ren from The Last Jedi, though.
hS
We all know Kylo is a geeky fanboy at heart.
hS
He is very much Not Amused.
Can I invite Vriska Serket? (Homestuck)
Or how about Father Alexander Anderson? (Hellsing , gore warning for searching images, and probably Wiki-diving too. If need be, just pretend I never asked.)
If her eye went, there'd still be scars - the art style just isn't good at depicting them. Yes, she has a bionic eye now, but the operation to put it in would also leave scars.
Polgara the Sorceress
Belgarion (also known as Garion but you'll have more success with Belgarion)
Princess Ce'Nedra
All three are from David Eddings' The Belgariad and The Mallorean serieses. Honstly I really feel like just listing all of the main cast but that would be cheating.
Eternally boiling eyes do have a purpose. Great conversation starters at parties like this one.
...now I want to write some dialogue from this party.
From The Mortal Instruments?
I can tell you that we'll be inviting most Shadowhunters, though.
hS
Mad-Eye Moody?
Albus Dumbledore? (He has a scar above his left knee that is a map of the London underground.)
Ron, post-brain attack?
And also Fire Lord Zuko?
I bet it shows the Circle Line as a proper circle, not the horrifying Lasso Line they turned it into. >:( Still mad about that.
I can confirm all of these except Ron, mostly because I have no idea what you mean by 'brain attack'.
hS
He got scars on his arms in OotP, when he summoned a brain from the Department of Mystery and it went all boa constrictor on him.
(Maybe we should invite Dumbledore with us to the Gathering?)
Come on, tell me that's not tempting enough as it is! :P
*crosses fingers because he woke up and saw the Board exploded with this game and has no idea what's going on*
This was very nearly a no, but I found the info I needed on the House wikia.
hS
The Phantom?
And, by extension, Agent Derik?
Here comes the spoiler block:
Give me an S! Give me a P! Give me an O! Give me an I L P E R! What does it spell? SPOILER! Beware of the spoilers.
Another guess backing this up would be the Doctor (Doctor Who)
Is the theme characters that a traumatic experience has influenced them to do something?
Let's all sing the spoiler song as there are spoilers many of them down below oooh spoilers.
I'll guess that Scar could come, but not Simba?
Is the theme that they all of scars of some sort?
These are Warriors characters (Author is Erin Hunter).
Would I be correct in guessing that Brokenstar or Tigerstar could come but Puddleshine couldn't?
So this spoiler walks into a bar, and he says "I'd like some spoilers please" there are spoilers everywhere you gotta be careful 'bout them spoilers partner
Sorry. I meant to ask if the theme was that they all had/have scars?
After some deliberating with a couple of friends, we think we may have come upon a solution to your riddle.
On that note...
Spoiler SPOILER spoiler spoilER SPOILer sPoIlEr SpOiLeR spOILer Spoilerman Does Whatever A Spoiler Can Spoiler Here Spoiler There Spoiler Spoiler Everywhere oh look what's that A SPOILER
Thou hath been forewarned of possible spoilers.
Another guess (a character who meets the theme guess) is Jyn Urso from Rouge One (Star Wars).
Is the theme for the characters dead parents/orphans?
(In your face, Disneyverse! ^_~)
hS
I nearly put him in instead of Tahiri, but I'm not 100% sure he's still an acceptable guest in the new movies.
hS
Check, check, is this spoilery thing working? *Taps microphone* A guy walks into a bar. Ouch. *Rim shot followed by crickets* Tough crowd. Have I done enough to avoid anyone seeing this if they want to avoid it? I'm gonna go with probably.
So, the quality that makes them a guest-worth-inviting is, potentially, transient? I knew it was a quality that could be acquired, but didn't know it might also be lost.
-Detective Phobos
I mean, definitely yes in some settings, but magic can do a lot of stuff.
hS
(Obviously he's already there, but there's enough leeway that I'll allow this.)
hS
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
That should do for a spoiler block. Anyway, characters who have had members of their family killed? Hrm... no... that would rule out Morgoth and the Joker. It comes up with a lot of them though.
Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler
Chat Noir would be in

-Drax the Destroyer

-Nightcrawler
Uninvited:
-Imhotep
-Haruhi Suzumiya
-Gandalf
-Chat Noir
-The Riddler
-Joker (Persona 5)
-Hamish Alexander
-Joan Watson
-Jean Grey
Bear in mind that my knowledge is not perfect, so if your theory works for everyone except one or two, it might still be right. :)
hS
This is him.
hS
Joan being from Elementary, of course! :D
What an interesting game! (and what an interesting party too, it looks like. :P I'm not sure if I want to tag along or not)
I confess that I've cribbed this game wholesale from my sibling, who got it from a book. In that version, it's objects you're taking on holiday, but I figured a party was more fun. ^_^
hS
(Same 'verse, and both of those 'think's may be significant.)
hS
You should. Have you seen the guest list? They're not going to take being taken un-seriously lightly.
hS
Or do we have a mini for Marvel Cinematic Universe in general?
Mini-Groots?
Chat Noir being from the Miraculous Ladybug canon (sorry for not specifying this earlier).
Not that I'm hS and they may know. I just don't recognise the name.
If I have to put a canon for this one I think you all deserve to be shot.
It's a very specialised party, obviously.
hS
Where Harry Dresden is from The Dresden Files.
This one here. I'm sort of having to infer.
hS
I'm guessing not, but I don't know for certain.
And secondly can Abigail (Stardew Valley) come?
warning warning spoiler alert spoiler alert. Also the department of redundancy department is on the phone and is calling and is saying they want us to report in and meet with them and discuss with them whether we should have really said everything twice at the start of this.
So everyone who has been invited has scars and/or is missing part of their body.
Do not read if you don't want spoilers.
I have no idea if this is right or not, or even if I am on the right track. However I believe that I know what it is that connects everyone who is currently invited to this party. That's enough words to remove any chance of spoiling it for others if it is the right guess. Right?
So I think the theme is that every person invited has a distinct physical characteristic. For example Darth Vader's suit, Harry Potter's lightning scar, Two Face's two faces... etc.
...Thought I guess God himself is unavalible. Therefore, I invite Haruhi Suzumiya from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya to the Party.
An ambitious man, a user of ancient magic born from a religion more ancient still, brought low by love and turned to darkness and vengeance...
Can I invite Imhotep, of The Mummy filmography?
(Names in the subject line if possible, please; it helps people skim the thread and join in. :) )
