Is be the first to tell you that I've had a potential fic fall out from under me before I can direct people's attention to it.
My opinion: I say go for the new one. If it's a mix of both, you should have very little problems giving it a run-through.
Back in October when I first applied for Permission, I had linked a story called "Hiding In The Shadows" as the fic I wanted to spork on my first mission. In an unusual bout of forethought, I saved the entire thing, unedited, to a word doc along with another Harry Potter fic that looked like something for ESAS, as it used the same 'Sue but made her the personification of magic. It just so happens that the author deleted all of her old fics, gave herself a new name, and then posted a new story that looked like a mix of the first two.
My question is, do I use the original if the author has already deleted it, or should I use the new version that has been posted? Or, and this is a big or, would I be allowed to jump in on the Goddess-slaying group mission as a writer instead of a beta?
Or something similar. I think if the original has been deleted and is nowhere else to be found on the wide wide Web, the general feeling is that it no longer exists and should not be brought back even in a sporking. I would say spork the new version, just to be safe.
