This show has changed so much since its first season - it went from a wacky comedy of bizarre filler episodes with a few hints at deeper intruigue mixed in to a plot-heavy drama about the conflicts of different forces in this magical world, centered around themes like coming of age, navigating responsibility and attempting to come to terms with the injustices of the past and the deep-seated prejudices of the present.
