Since we've just (sometime this year) passed our tenth anniversary - and the tenth anniversary of the Oddlots homepage rebooting is coming up in March - I was thinking:
Could we make a documentary about the PPC community?
I'm thinking something that could go up on Youtube (not the TV, obviously), basically outlining a) what the PPC is and b) our history. Not the history of the organisation, though - I'm thinking specifically of the Boards, Chats, Wiki and Websites.
I'm imagining 'interviews' with people from across the history of the PPC - most likely current Boarders/Chatters, but from every year we've been around. (I say 'interviews' because they'd likely either be Boarder X giving a short spiel, or interviewer/Boarder videos intercut despite being in wildly different places) They wouldn't even have to be videos - audio with generic silhouette pictures would work, or even other people reading out a written statement.
I'm also thinking we might be able to get a brief clip out of some departed members - people like, say, Miss Cam, who is still active in fandom, or July, or - hey, anything's possible - Jay or Acacia themselves.
I'm not thinking high-budget. I'm considering getting former-Agent Dafydd to act as host (or in other words, me in one of my cloaks), and basically cut between the aforementioned interviews, narration-to-camera, and stills of certain things (websites, for instance). The one thing I'd like but can't actually do myself - other than interviews - is drawings for some events (Ypur invasions, perhaps?), but that's filed under 'would work without it'.
I'd think we'd want it to be primarily positive - so we wouldn't devote large chunks of time to, say, the Thalia Weaver Incident, or the various IRC-related dramas - but also an honest portrayal of Who We Are and Why We're Here.
And starting with a reading from Rambling Band, of course.
But... what does anyone else think? Is there anyone who'd contribute to it - video, audio, written statement or (possibly) art? Or am I just throwing petals into the wind?
(... is that a saying? It feels like a saying...)

I'm in, for whatever it's worth. I've been around about as long as you have, so I guess that counts for perspective or something. I'm not a huge fan of my voice on recording, but I doubt anyone else cares, so I can suck it up. {= )
I can draw, but I am not reliable at it, as anyone who was in the March Madness event knows. >.>; You're welcome to use any PPC-related art I've already done, though—just try to avoid the older, crappier ones. ^_^; And pictures of other people's characters would probably need permission from them, too.

... doing a third systems test (after Test 1: Is Anyone Interested? [this thread] and Test 2: Can I Make Them? [the Dafydd video]), since both of them worked. Test 3 would be Will People Do It?, and I'm thinking of getting people who share a voice/face with their agents to read/film sections of the Comprehensive History, with a goal to making a visual-aid-filled full version.
Assuming people would do it...

It should be, anyway.
I am rather lacking in video skills, and utterly swamped with school/work/writing right now, but I do remember bits and pieces of the PPC community history; I'd be happy to archive-trawl, jabber at a voice recorder, or what-have-you.
I'd definitely contribute--video if I can figure out how to record off my webcam, definitely audio. Unfortunately, I have the drawing skills of a five-year-old.
I've spent the last half hour sketching in most of the major events I can remember. This assumes that things like new departments aren't significant (except for, I guess, the first one - but I don't know what that was); in general, anything which has been done before doesn't deserve a mention. So the Oxford Gathering '04 is on there, and will include mentions of the others - but the others don't get their own slots unless something special happened at them.
Anyway... if you can think of anything that should go on the list (particularly since 2008 - it's all a bit of a blur!), or if you want to volunteer to write/say/film&say something about a particular event, this is the time to do it... please. ;)

Perhaps you should add significant missions (Legendary Badfic?), such as C*l*br**n (all you newbies out there: don't read it. It's NSFB and very NSFW), That Series, Rainbow Factory, etc?
... as a sort of 'and then we changed in this way'. Adding them all would really make it about the universe, not the community.
... of course, as I recall, that would lead to me interviewing either myself (for 'legolas by laura') or... myself (for Clbr_n). So perhaps not?
On the subject of interviewing myself, the advent of Radio Nutmeg (late 2008) and the PPC Radio Plays (circumstantially dated to 2007) might warrant inclusion - and maybe the <a href="http://ppc.wikia.com/wiki/PPCSoundtrack">PPC Soundtrack (2008).

My friend Brian would like to volunteer his expertise and possibly his services if you contact him at birdmanbjnue@yahoo.com
He doesn't always check his e-mail very regularly, so it might be better to find him or the production company he works with on facebook.

I would love to see a documentary on the PPC Community.
You're a veteran Boarder, you'd do a great job. If you contacted Miss Cam or Jay and Acacia...wow. *falls down and worships*
So I say go for it!
This sounds like a lot of fun!
I'd be willing to do an interview or something!
I'm all for it! Except, I'm not exactly sure I would be comfortable showing my face on camera. Maybe I could just put a hood over my eyes...
I'm not that comfortable with sending pictures or voice recordings over the internet but I can write something if you're interested... provided, once again, that Real Life lets me breathe for two seconds.
What exactly do you have in mind for written material? Short stories, Q&A sessions, reactions/essay-type things, or a mix of all of the above?
I have a microphone, so I could record my voice. I can also draw, but terribly, so that should be a last resort.
(I guess we're assuming not many non-PPCers are likely to see this? Don't want negative attention from trolls and whatnot.)
I'm planning on putting it on my Youtube account, which so far has... er, the first York Gathering reading 'legolas by laura', and two videos relating to my PPC Children's Book. So it won't exactly be among masses of popular videos...!

And yes, I'd do an interview... video would be unlikely, but with my measly art skills I could at least provide an image.
I can attempt to draw sommat for ye - or anyone else. Like, if 'these ate my agents' comes up, and you want little shots or a group picture with said agents, I could attempt to do that.
OR MAYBE I'LL JUST DO MY OWN AND LET EVERYONE ELSE SUFFER, BECAUSE I'M JUST THAT EVIL. -insert psychotic cackling-
Not sure if I do anything to help, but I can interviewed if you want.
Only thing is, my English pronunciation is TERRIBLE. Who wants to "dub" me?
If I'll have some free time and won't be hospitalised...
Sign me up for an interview/spiel/etc.! This sounds like so, so, SO much fun! (Not to mention a great way to get publicity!)
Seems fun, let's do this. I'm willing to help, but I've no idea how much free time I'll have in the next three months or so.
I have a friend who's part of a small film production company and he might be willing to help out. If nothing else, he'd be a good person to ask for advice. I've got his e-mail somewhere...
I'll record interviews, readings, anything you like. *jumps up and down with one hand in the air* I would totally volunteer to do a reading from Rambling Band! XD
I could do video with my webcam, though it won't be very high quality. I personally don't have any qualms about letting my face/name be known. (Apart from the fact my face might scare people. :P) And the idea of seeing Dafydd again would be awesome!
So yeah, consider this an enthusiastic supporting statement. :p
I could draw stuff when the bulk of my college apps are out. And I conceivably could also provide audio, but I'm not too big on recording (my voice is creepy recorded, imo).
I'm not willing to put my real-life name or voice online, and I'm no good with video splicing or anything like that.
I suppose I could try to draw something - maybe make a big ok' Specs and Co. logo to represent me, and so avoid having to shore people my dodgy drawing skills.
I could definitely do a written spiel. Goodness knows it's where my strengths lie, right?
If this went through, I'd probably need to know what I would be writing. I could probably handle it from there and, I dunno, email it in or something?
Could work.
It's not a documentary about some people who spend time in front of computers - it's about the Internet people we are on here. Right here and now, your real name is SpecstacularSC.
However distressing that may be. :P
