Hi newbie! Have a block of katchi katchin, the hardest metal in the dragonball multiverse. You have one opportunity to change its shape.
I'm relatively new to the PPC, and this is my first time posting on the message boards, but I have a question about Mary Sues that's been bugging me for a while.
I watch a show in which the main character is immune to mind control, and that got me thinking: does having an immunity to mind control mean that a canon is immune to the Suefluence, or does the Sue bypass that and take control of the character anyways?
Also, while some characters have a degree of OOC Resistance, only omnipotent and omniscient deities are fully immune to it. I'm thinking being immune to mind control would give this character at least some OOC Resistance.
What show are you talking about, by the way? I can't think of any characters immune to mind control off the top of my head.
Detentionaire. It's this mildly obscure Canadian animated show that combines the mystery and intrigue of Gravity Falls, the character diversity of The Magic School Bus, the flash animation of Johnny Test, and some of the best-looking guys up north.
...scratch that last part.
But even then, I think that what the charcater has is an immunity to a specific sort of mind control, not mind control in general.
Hello newbie! Here, have some chocolate and enjoy your stay!
Hi newbie! Have a block of katchi katchin, the hardest metal in the dragonball multiverse. You have one opportunity to change its shape.
Take a bolter or chainsword, a flask of mjød and a mug of Klatchian coffee. If you drink both of them at the same time slowly maybe they'll neutralize one another and neither of them will kill you.
The chainsword sounds pretty cool...and thanks for the alcohol and coffee, too!
Welcome! Have a seventeen feet long wool knit scarf and a bag of jellybabies. Use them irresponsibly!
The answer to your question is the latter, basically because of what Twistey said: Sues don't play by the rules.
A metaphor springs to mind. Normally, your immune system lets you fight off infections the way your main character normally throws off mind control. However, certain viruses mess with your very DNA in order to disrupt the immune system, and then you can get sick. Sues mess with the DNA of a canon, i.e. its Words, so your main character may be susceptible to malign influences they otherwise might not be.
I'm sure it's not a perfect metaphor, but I hope it makes sense!

Would it be more accurate to say, instead of describing it as mind control, that the very existence of a Mary Sue warps reality in a certain area? A bit like how gravitational fields work if I need to give an analogy.
In PPC lore, Suvians have an Aura of Smooth that influences the people around them to irrationally like them, or to irrationally hate them if that's what they need to make a point about how right/awesome they are. It's not direct mind control, more of a passive effect, but it is due to the active whims of the Sue in question.
Similarly, most of the canon-warping that happens in a Suefic is a result of what the Sue is actively doing to carve out a place for itself where it doesn't belong. Its mere existence isn't always enough, but sometimes it is, if its existence is impossible without it even having to do anything. The more impossible it is, the bigger the effect.
... Basically, like everything else, it depends and is open to interpretation. {= )

Hi! If you plan to join, welcome! If you don't, I understand. (I myself almost didn't join because my parents don't really like the very idea of sporking.) I'm Twistey, and I haven't been there for that long, but it seems to me that I'm the only one here to answer your question, so I will do so.
It depends on what your story's plot is, but in most circumstances, I think that the canon would definitely fall under the Suefluence, because of the following truth: Canons play fair. Sues don't.
Also, from a writing perspective: Since canons never really play a major part in a PPC fic (and they're not supposed to, since agents aren't supposed to disrupt them), they would probably be best just acting like the other canons do when under Suefluence, otherwise they'd risk trying to help the agents (which is not too good of an idea under most circumstances.)
Anyone else feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes, I'm a newbie, and thanks for the answer!
My newbie gift for you is a bunch of pieces of stained glass that, erm, definitely didn't used to be a window with a picture of a certain "embodiment of evil" in a certain castle in Germany! (Yeah, Wolfenstein 3D is a big fandom of mine.) Feel free to make a new, less creepy picture out of them.
-Twistey
P.S. What are your fandoms? How did you find us? Etc. I'm interested to know more about you! Welcome to the PPC!
I'll find a way to put the stained glass to use!
I discovered you guys, almost by accident, while browsing TV Tropes one day. I read a few missions and ended up getting hooked.
As for my fandoms...I watch a LOT of animated shows, listing them would probably take too long...I'm also part of the Pokemon, Marvel Cinematic Universe, Calvin and Hobbes, Assassination Classroom, and Sky High fandoms. I'm also a borderline FNaF fan (I've never played the games, but I keep up on the lore).
I mean, well, everything has a fandom (I myself am part of the Animusic fandom), but I never knew of the Calvin and Hobbes fanbase being all that active in terms of creating fan work and whatnot. That's really interesting.

Yeah, go on fanfiction.net and search either swing123 or garfieldodie (or, alternitavey, search "The Calvinverse" on Tv Tropes), they're probably some of the best known C&H writers out there.
I'll try to find it over my oh-so-convenient break starting this weekend!
