As for why... well, for one, the news has been super depressing these last couple of months. For two, once we were out of the summer, Fandom News died down a bit. And for three, it wasn't really doing what I wanted it to do. It didn't spark discussion - just had people posting unrelated posts at each other.
Which is all well and good, but 'rambling discussion and debate' was what I was aiming at. ;) So I figured I'd let us drop back to free-form news posting.
Now, Minecraft! I've been playing Minecraft since... let's see... the addition of flowers. ^_^ My very first world featured a glass tower with flowers planted on the corners, which actually worked until a couple of updates down the line flowers could only be placed on glass. And don't get me started on my lovely shrubbery that suddenly turned into a forest...!
I also had a wooden lava-duct, and made use of the probably-bug where dropping sand into lava or water raised a cube of the liquid to the height you dropped it from. And this was in the days of infinitely-spreading liquids... yeah, one time I deliberately flooded the whole world just for fun.
('The whole world' being one of the old Creative squares, of course. I remember scoffing at the idea when InfDev came out...)
Okay, so new stuff. The terracotta blocks are very pretty, but I've not managed to figure out how to get them to tile properly. Several of them have quarter-circles on them, but these have a distressing tendency to not form into full circles.
I also really like the llamas, which are actually from 1.11, but have the same 'pretty colours' thing as the terracotta, with the blankets. Hmm... llama farm with terracotta floor to match the blanket colours? Sounds like a thought...
The Wiki page for 1.12 is here. The big thing you've not mentioned is the Illusioner, which is a new mob that... apparently doesn't naturally spawn? How weird.
