Okay, I'm having real trouble believing this one (is there such thing as a Hallowe'en Fool?) but it's on Wikipedia, StarWars.com and Disney's website...
Disney has just announced its acquisition of Lucasfilm and all rights associated therewith - including Star Wars and Indiana Jones - and has further claimed a release date for Star Wars: Episode VII of 2015.
Which sounds quite bad on the face of it, but then again, Disney also owns Marvel Studios - which means they were behind Iron Man 2 and The Avengers, which I, at least, liked.
On the other hand - heh, Disney's Star Wars, I can't quite get my head round that one.
Also the whole thing simply screams PRANK. But if Wikipedia says it...

...Tangled. Hopefully, the Sequel Trilogy would be like those, instead of Lucas' Prequels.
He's giving it all away.
The concern for Disney... yeah, I'm with you there. But that was a rather awesome thing for Lucas to do.
I got this news three days ago on my deviantart account from my watch list.
I'm still trying to wrap my head around it.
I kid, I kid.
Seriously, it'll be nice to have a different spin on the movies... though I sure hope they don't try to pander to children or anything...
Aren't the sequels meant to focus on Luke's and Leia's kids? As hS and Data have pointed out, Star Wars is already pretty kid-friendly, so my concern is that we'll just end up with yet another "rebellious, spunky kids save the day because the adults are too strict/won't listen/are dumb" story. That's pretty standard Disney fare. {= P
Episode 7: A New Offspring
Episode 8: The Grown-ups Strike Back
Episode 9: Return of the Spawn

If that's the case, I bet a lot of adult fans are gonna be mad... even though they aren't the ones the movies are focused towards...
Specifically, though I know Lucas basically decided anything he hadn't personally made was just dust in the wind, I wonder whether Disney will feel the same way - or whether they'll at least make an effort to fit things with the books etc.

I'd like to point you to pretty much all of the Marvel movies since Iron Man. Also, John Carter. Also also, Marvel's comics.
It is highly unlikely that they'll do anything with the tone of the movies, since the series is already pretty kid friendly.
Realistically, there is no way that they could handle the property worse than Lucas already did.
Can you imagine what Star Wars would be like with atrociously-accented funny-talking alien characters?
Or, like, I don't know, fuzzy teddy bears killing armoured space-soldiers?
Or, hey, how about magic-wielding men in swooshy robes with, ooh, I know, laser swords!
... admittedly that last is aimed a couple of years higher than the others, but still...

Wikipedia can be edited by anyone with Internet access. If it's a prank, it'd be all too easy for the prankster to make Wikipedia seem to support whatever's being claimed.
Although I'm having images of Darth Vader singing to his evil CAF about the joys of the Dark Side...
It begs to be filked.
-bows with an uncanny flourish . . . shut up, it's Halloween-
Filked?
That's what I mean by filked.
...we take that song from Mulan, "I'll make a man out of you", and turn it into something like "I'll make a Jedi out of you"?
Featuring an intense training montage by Yoda and Luke.
Get down to business, we shall. Defeat the Empire, we shall.
Get down to business, we shall.
Defeat the empire, we shall.
Try, you must not.
Do, or do not.
Not ready are you to ace the Sith,
But face Vader now, you must!
Make a Jedi of you, I shall!
(Let's get down to business
To defeat the Huns!
Did they send me daughters
When I asked for sons?
You're the saddest bunch I ever met!
But you can bet before we're through,
Somehow I'll make a man out of you!)
:D
While it's easy to throw nonsense on Wikipedia, this is on too many news sites to be a hoax.
(Granted, some political blogger in New York was happily spreading lies about Hurricane Sandy's effects on NYC the other day. But he got caught almost immediately.)
...it'll probably be a grutchin or something.
A seventh Star Wars episode?
Aside from the obvious question of "is it a prequel to the prequels or a sequel to episode VI?", one has to wonder if the metaphorical cow hasn't been milked enough already.
Then again, this is a world centred on making money...
To answer your question, they are calling the new movies (yes you read that correctly, it was plural) Episodes 7, 8 & 9. So, we will now have the Originals, the Prequels, and the Sequels.
