Hey everyone!
The annual PPC Census is here. You can find the link here. Partcipation is, as always, entirely voluntary but encouraged.
Many thanks to Novastorme for betaing the survey and to JulyFlame for creating the framework years ago.

Decided to stop by here on a lark, and it seems that I showed up not too late!
Well, technically I finished it five days ago, just took me a while to finish ye Board post. Sunburns are no good for my productivity. I would've finished the census sooner, too, but trying to answer all the questions as accurately as I could turned out to be more time consuming than I anticipated. On the plus side, I learned a few things about myself. Apparently I learned to read much sooner than I thought I did, and my mother was a bit afraid I might have been mute until age three. I also hadn't realized I've been writing for seven freaking years! Kinda wish I'd done more in that time, but still, how time flies when you're having fun, eh?
...multiple days ago. Hush you.
Looks like I chose a good moment to poke my nose back here. :)
It's always nice to see you when you pop in. ^_^
FYI, the Lost Tales team recently overhauled the whole site to convert it to CSS. I tried to keep SIELU looking as close as possible to the original, but some things are a little different. I hope it's okay! Please let me know if you want me to make any changes, now or at any time.

Thanks for letting me know, I will take a look. I really have fallen out of all things fandom-y...
It's always fun to see a Proper Oldbie show back up here. :)
(You may be... pleased? Intrigued? Alarmed? ... to know that I currently have an agent in SIELU who speaks only Primitive Quendian from before the Elves headed off to Valinor. He also believes writing is an affront to language. Nobody gets on with him much. ^_^)
hS
Interesting. I am glad that SIELU is not completely abandoned, and if it does attract some rather... strange... characters - well, it kind of fits with its original intent. And with Poison Ivy's poisonous personality.
I'm Twistey, a 1-year-bie. Your returnbie present is a device that can make objects out of solid light. Welcome back!
-Twistey
Thanks! Gotta keep that device away from Feanor!
Thanks! I don't think we have ever interacted, but I do remember your name for some reason. Must be the unusual sound combination. Just wait until someone appropriates it as a drug name!
Mostly as "Oh god why can't she stop writing" and "Oh god why can't she stop writing angst?"
Or it's just the cool X-Z sounds. Let's go with that.
:P
Oldbie on the board!
Thank you to Zing for actually telling me who you are. I am... waay too new to have known. Welcome back! Have a cup of Klah, and get comfortable, assuming you intend to stay for any length of time.
Thanks!
Yes, the last time I was actually ACTIVE on these boards was more than 10 years ago. Funny how time flies...
Hello! Welcome back to the Board! How is everything? What brought you back here now?
(We've never met that I know of, but. I mean. You created SIELU, which is pretty darn cool, especially since I have agents who ended up there even though they've had limited screentime so far.)
At any rate, welcome back! I hope you enjoy however long you stay. :)
~Z
Oh, thanks for keeping SIELU alive as the original agent Hellga has succumbed to the monster that is mortgage and its evil friends in adulting. :)
Man, now I wish I had the time/mental energy to write more original stuff...
Using these links (2006-2014), these ones (2015-17), and the results right now.
Three different things plotted on this graph:
-Gender breakdown (yellow, grey, and black lines): In 2006, we were over 80% female. Here in 2018, that's down at 40%, having hit an all-time low of 23% back in 2016. Part of that drop has been the inclusion of various 'Other' options since 2010, but mostly it's a rise in male Boarders.
-Percentage straightness (blue line). The questions on orientation have offered a wide range of options over the years (2011 had eight choices, the last few years have settled on 5), but for a simple graph like this the 'straightness' trend is easiest to plot. It stood steady at 50% for the first few years, but has dropped steadily since 2016. (Now, does that say something about the PPC, about fandom, about the internet, or about society as a whole?)
-Modal age, because how else am I going to plot age on these things (green triangles)? This has mostly kept rising, though the polymodal years obscure this a bit (see 2014's three triangles, or 2017's two). On years where there is one clear leader, however, it's tending to increase.

I actually wrote original stories decades ago (and got one SF story published), but the current answer to "Do you write original stories?" is "No" and thus I didn’t get to answer the other questions for "Original Stories". (I didn’t create outlines and didn’t use beta readers then, and I don’t remember much of what I wrote or how much I finished, but there were only two stories I actually dared to show to somebody.)
The long answer to "Do you write fanfiction?" would be "Yes, three very short Harry Potter stories over the last four years, which may not be enough to give valid answers to the fanfiction questions, but I answered anyway."
My answer to "Do you create outlines for your fics?" has always been and still is "No", but thinking about it, I usually take excerpts from the canon scenes I want to use as background, and then write around them, so you might say that J.K. Rowling did the outlines for me.
Over the last few years, I finished everything I started, but that’s not surprising, considering how short my stories are and that I may think about what to write for years, but only actually start writing when I’m sure that I can finish it within a few days.
I don’t feel like writing my annual Harry Potter fanfiction this year, but since I can’t even decide what I want to write, the answer to "How often does writers block hit you while writing fanfics?" is still "Never".
I actually knew about fanfiction long before I discovered the Harry Potter fandom in 2007, but never felt inclined to join a fandom. Thus, the discrepancy between discovering fandom in 2007, but reading fanfiction before 1990.
Apparently I caught a severe case of writers block on getting Permission, and being made a Permission Giver didn’t help at all. (Because I’m now responsible to do it right and write something worthy of the PPC? I have no idea whether this may be the cause.) So, I didn’t create a spin-off yet.
But I did prepare an outline for the one mission I didn’t write yet (as a workshop exercise done long before I got Permission).
I did write non-mission stories that still use the PPC universe as the setting, but all but one (the Friday 13th event that may or may not have been just a nightmare) are non-canonical writing exercises done before I got permission.

I was very unmotivated this year, I'm afraid. I skipped a bunch of the long-answer questions. It's not like the answers have changed much, if at all. {= )
~Neshomeh
As someone's noted in the replies, 'Personnel' has two Ns. I also note a distressing absence of the Department of Analytical Science in the questions (^_~), and it's probably an idea to remove Alleb from the question she's named in, now that she's not really around.
But thanks for putting this together!

One thing: I was actually 13 when I found the PPC (and still am). The maths doesn't say it's impossible.
And it's rather long... but I'm not complaining - loads of stats!
Didn't answer all questions, due to not having an opinion on some things, but I hope that's all right.
Not sure what my two cents will be worth, but there you go.
...for answers for quite a while.
And this time it's a serious completion (I almost submitted a really silly run-through I did of it while Beta-ing which contained a Time Lord called the Tester, a distopian future where hS was the founder of the PPC empire that now ruled the earth, and if the answer had multiple tick boxes the answer was always ALL OF THE ABOVE)
Novastorme.
We should definitely consider founding a PPC empire and taking over the world.
I particularly liked the inclusion of my own category for number of missions written. :P
Was there an actual option on the spinoffs page for "I am Iximaz" or is that something that Iximaz wrote in?
Sorry, I'm over here laughing so hard my mom thought I was choking.
"Possibly disgruntled evles", found over in the "What genres do you read?" section of page 7.
It was... just a test to see if you were reading it all. Yeah, that sounds good, right?
Right?
Thanks for pointing it out.
