Can you point me to any missions where it happens?
As pointedly suggested hinted at by doctorlit, I've moved the masterpost of BBC-verse mini-Hounds to my own Tumblr page.
You may go here to adopt your very own mini-Hound of the Baskervilles from the Modern Baker Street Fanfiction Academy!
Orderly queues, please!
It looks cuddly and slightly effeminate.
If you would like to be, then you may!
Can I adopt Jon? I've always wanted a greenish mastiff of my very own!
I'll update the list.
The 1895 section is for Arthur Conan Doyle book verse and Granada verse minis?
If so, Homles belongs to Kelok and Unger. They found him in a book verse fic.
If we see him straying elsewhere, we will promptly return him to your Agents.
What do I do with Sherlock Homes I found in my last mission? It isn't, as far as I'm aware, from the BBC-verse (the mission was a Doctor Who x Artemis Fowl 'fic).
It should probably be counted as a Mini-Reaper, since it was found in a Doctor Who crossover fic. Especially since Sherlock Holmes has appeared in Doctor Who stuff before, but not, to my knowledge, in Artemis Fowl.
But I've seen occurrences of "Sherlock Homes" in the BBC-verse anyway, so I suppose there's a Hound and Reaper variant of the mini?
I mean, not of this particular instance, but yes. Which mini you get is entirely dependent on what fandom the fic is. For example, if you had a "Modern girl in Middle-Earth" story and she was talking about the Pirates of the Caribbean movies for whatever reason, and she misspelled "Will Turner", it would still be a mini-Balrog, not a Misspelled Monkey.
I mean, by that logic, any misspelled Harry Potter names in "Ring Child" would've been mini-Balrogs, too, because the fic was set there and not in the Potterverse. I don't think that makes sense. The characters are still Potterverse characters even if they turn up in Middle-earth, so shouldn't the minis be Potterverse minis, as well?
Also, I think that would result in some seriously identity-confused minis. What OFU would a mini-Balrog named Arry Potter belong to, for instance? He's not a Rings character misspelling, so he wouldn't fit at OFUM, but if he's not a mini-Aragog, how does he work at HFA?
~Neshomeh
Has had a mini-Baragog named Borimir.
We don't see many crossover minis, though, and by that logic then LeStrade should be a mini-Sparklehound because it was found in a Sherlock/Twilight crossover. Hum.
Most of my agents' minis have been rescued from crossovers. No-one has ever mentioned that the minis should be cross-breeds and neither they nor I, feel any great desire to go back and rewrite everything.
I think rewriting Riverdendell to be a crossover Labyrinth x Harry Potter mini would be bothersome enough. What are those even called? Helping Aragogs? Aragog Hands? And the whole 'Chestnuts roasting on an open mini-Balrog' joke would have to go.
I feel like in the end it's really just up to the discoverer of the mini.
I don't think I could get better comedy from crossover minis than from the regular type. Borimir the mini-Baragog is funny, but I think that is also partly because he is different.
Also, I finally got around to finishing up our collaborative mission; shall we get a beta or two before we post it? You should also add your notes at the end, if you've got any.
I've added my notes as well. Do you have a preferred
Beta? Mine will be doing NaNo and might be rather tied up.
Can you point me to any missions where it happens?
There's a mini-Hound Sherlock Homes and a mini-Reaper Sherlock Homes. Although, that fic being an Artemis Fowl/Doctor Who crossover, wouldn't that make it a mini-Rootper? After all, HFA has a mini-Pokegog and a mini-Baragog, both found in crossovers...
I'll add him to the list, thanks!
It counts as BBC verse due to Doctor Who being BBC. This could of course make no sense at all, but I thought it worth mentioning.
... I know Mittens would love to adopt LeStrade.
I've put it on the list that Mittens has adopted him, thanks!
I'm happy those sweet little minis finally have a proper kennel. It just isn't right to have them roaming about, homeless until someone adopts them!
/officially has a soft spot for minis of all varieties and may eventually become a crazy mini lady
Also, while I'm here, does anyone know if there's an OFU for World of Warcraft ? If there is, I wish to read it. If there's not, I'm feeling masochistic enough to give it a whirl.
You do know that there already /is/ a mini adoption center right? It just isn't featured very much, and I think most people prefer to find their own mini's rather than adopt pre-existing ones.
I be confused about who you're addressing. /shrugs
Is there? I know there's a Mini-Balrog Adoption Agency, and a few other specific ones (some of which are even run out of HQ), but who started a general one?
Back in my day, the only way to get a mini was to ask an OFU coordinator, anyway...
~Neshomeh, walking uphill both ways in the snow.
... back when you got an official graphic of them to go with it?
hS, lost both hands to frostbite - then grew them back to lose them again
I've got mine for Arasgorn and Severe. I even drew a mini-Hellpuppy for the Good Omens Official Fanfiction Summer School to use.
Yessir, those were the good ol' days.
~Neshomeh, whose family all lived in a cardboard box in the middle of the road back in those days—all 150 of us.
Maybe if we try real hard we can force-I-mean-convince Lily to do official mini-Hound graphics?
And of course, who's to say what might happen when my OFU gets back online...?
hS
is what the certificate will look like. I'll do 'em after college apps.
After I finish college apps in a couple of weeks I shall put mini-Hound adoption forms on the list of graphics to make. ;P
I think that one is largely run by the PPC. This one is run by the Modern Baker Street Fanfiction Academy, where all the minis are anyway.
