He sat down again and peered curiously at Lana. “Levant? Ah, you mean the Middle East. Well, yes and no. I don’t come from World One, but my home verse’s geography is pretty much the same. Though I’ve no idea how you’ve guessed; my accent’s certainly not like anything from the area — not Arab, or Persian, or Kurdish, or Israeli.” Indeed, his accent was practically a mishmash of various things — a few words sounded like Received Pronunciation, others sounded Scottish, some were harsher (South African, perchance) and some were not unlike German. The sentence he added was obviously in a foreign language, though — there were way too many harsh kh-sounds.
