"I've h-had worse." She slapped away the hands of one of the nurses who tried to remove her jacket. "V-Vania, what h-happened with D-Doc? Is he o-okay?"
"Who's that?" Doc said, his teeth chattering. "Did you introduce a new character without me?"
Vania rolled her eyes. "That's Rina. You can talk to her later. Right now, we need to get you out of those wet clothes and warm you up." She grabbed the back of Doc's collar and began to drag him away.
Doc looked longingly at the pile of books on the floor. "But Rina has so many shinies!"
Rina would have grinned at Doc's comment if it weren't for gear of dropping the neuralyzer in the frigid waters below.
This is gonna suck, she thought to herself, and let go.
Luckily, a girl falling out of a hole in the sky tends to attract quite some attention and everyone who saw the spectacle was easily persuaded to look at the pretty flashing gadget.
Her task complete, Rina took a deep breath and dived underwater, leaving the bystanders milking about confusedly on the beach.
She opened a portal back to Medical and allowed the current to sweep her through, where she lay on the floor in the puddle of seawater, soaked to the skin and shivering violently. It was a good thing her pockets were waterproof.
Rina climbed to her feet and grinned sheepishly. "S-sorry about the m-mess."
Vania had been watching Doc sleep when Rina arrived. Doc was in a bed, covered in heated blankets and quilts. Vania turned when she heard the water. She stared in surprise as Rina stood up, then smacked herself in the forehead.
"Holy crap, I am so stupid. It didn't occur to me you were going to get wet, too. Um, Nursey people," she called out, "we need some more warm stuff!"
"I've h-had worse." She slapped away the hands of one of the nurses who tried to remove her jacket. "V-Vania, what h-happened with D-Doc? Is he o-okay?"
"They don't think he was in the water too long, because he was still in the early stages of hypothermia. They're getting him warmed back up. He got some frostbite around his toes, but they have some dermal regenerator thing from Star Trek, so he's not losing anything.
"As I suspected, the whole drunk thing was completely psychosomatic, so there's no hangover. Doc is apparently a teetotaler, and he's upset with me that I didn't tell him Butterbeer had alcohol in it. Even though it has so little alcohol that Potterverse kids are allowed . . . But anyway, I'm under orders not to let him have any actual alcohol, or Bleepka-type stuff either, just in case. To be honest, we don't usually use Bleep products anyway, so no big loss.
"Anyway, Rina, I just wanted to thank you. I know we didn't really know each other, and I didn't even mean to message you, but you came around and helped me save my partner anyway. So, thanks, on behalf of Doc and myself."
Vania held out a hand to shake Rina's, but hesitated. "Are you sure you don't want a blanket? Or at least a hug? Come on! You're shivering!"
and then down at herself; she was shivering violently and dripping seawater everywhere.
"Oh, f-fine," she chattered, shrugging out of her sodden coat and allowing the nurse to wrap her in a hot blanket. She knew she really ought to take off all her wet clothes, but her pride wasn't willing to risk her dignity yet.
"A-anyway, it was no p-problem," she continued, already starting to warm up. "I actually had f-fun- it's not like having to h-hunt down Sues, you know?" Rina grinned. "After this, wanna keep in touch? Or at least g-go for a drink? Not alcoholic," she amended, glancing at Doc. "I'm too young anyway, and b-besides, hot chocolate is way better." She thought about what she said and sighed wistfully. "H-hot chocolate sounds really good right now. Or B-butterbeer."
Rina glanced at Doc sheepishly. "S-sorry, Doc... Can he even hear me?"
"But I'll be sure he knows once he wakes up.
"It has been fun. I'm sure we'll see each other around. The Flowers will probably, coincidentally assign us a mission together, now that we've met!
"And, yeah. Hot chocolate would be fantastic. Rudi's?"
Rina grinned. "And hey, I should bring my p-partner along. If we ever end up working together, it might be n-nice to have everyone already acquainted. Plus I still haven't really m-met Doc, have I?"
((I think this is pretty close to where we're gonna end... You want to do the honors?))
"Just try to keep the books inside your pockets around him. Doc tends to get the Gollum eyes around those.
"All, right, go get warmed up, Mrs. Shivers! We can have a no-frostbite meet-up later."
((That was fun! I don't usually do long RP threads like this. It was a little awkward not knowing where the story was going for a while, but I think it turned out nicely.))
((Are we going to make this into an interlude or something? Because that would be really neat.
And actually, not knowing where we were going made it fun for me. :P ))
