Hello, and welcome to the sixth annual PPC Pokémon Tournament!
oh my god it's been six years what the heck i want off this rideThe tournament, as always, will be starting on April 1st—however, you now have one month to consider your teams and strategies! (For those of you who were not with us last year, have a Wiki link.)
Since last year's tournament was a typical singles style format, this year we're mixing it up and introducing the Little Cup! What does that mean? It means you may not use "Pokémon that have not yet evolved, are capable of evolution, and are obtainable at level 5 in-game".
For more details (and to see what your opponents' teams are!) check out our rules document here.
Signups close on March 31st. Hope to see you on the battlefield!

So my only experience of Pokemon battles is PvP in Pokemon Go. I’ve investigated Showdown and worked out the basics... but I have no idea what terms like “paralysis” mean in this context.
How long does the battle itself take, and is it just one versus one or do multiple Pokemon go at the same time?
Sorry for my cluelessness - I’ll see what I can work out.

So, like everything else in the world, Pokemon has a wiki all of it's own. You can find it, Here (it's called Bulbapedia).
To answer your specific question, Paralysis is one of Five Status Conditions that a Pokemon can be effected by (the others being Sleep, Burned, Frozen and Poisoned). If your Pokemon is Paralyzed then it's speed is halved and it is unable to make a move a quarter of the time.
As to the rest of your questions: -Battles can last for almost any amount of time dependent on certain factors, however most battles should take between 3-10 minutes to complete realistically. -LC (Little Cup) is a singles tier, meaning that it's only one Pokemon out at a time on each side. There are certain tiers that are Doubles tiers (two Pokemon out at a time on each side) and even (in the past at least) a Triples tier (You guessed it, three Pokemon out at a time). But we don't really need to worry about those this year at least.
No worries about it. To ask questions is always good. If you need or want anymore help (and if anyone else wants any help with Showdown or Pokemon Battling) you can either message me on Discord if you're on it too, or my email should be clickable (I'm just not always that quick to respond to emails).

It's been a little while since I've played LC. Need to see how well my old teams still work (and if they still work given Dexit)
