There's a "get an invitation" link in the Log In dialogue box, click on it and enter your email address there. After that, wait for the invitation to be sent to your email address.
Mostly what the title says, I've finally written some proper consumable fanfic and I'd like it to be consumed on Ao3. Not quite sure exactly how invites work, but it says I need one to get into the site.
