I actually had the opportunity to meet Tammy a few years back. She's...a character. I've never heard anyone swear so much before in my life. She's like a combination of Popeye, R. Lee Ermey, and Robin Williams.
Hello, all!
You may (read: probably don't) remember me; I was around for a little while a year or two ago. Made a few abortive attempts at making Agents, all of whom were - honestly - a bit rubbish, and sort of disappeared.
I was trawling the interwebs the other day, and came across someone mentioning the need for Bleeprin (poor bugger had seen something she could not unsee), and was reminded of you lot. So, I put on my bathrobe, broke out my grandda's pipe, and started re-reading bloody everything. I'm not through yet - not by a long shot - but I think I may try my hand at writing for the PPC once again.
In short: Get your Bleeprin ready, and pray that my computer's Machine-Spirit is willing to let me use spellcheck (Omnissiah knows I used enough holy engine oil to lubricate a battle tank, much less a laptop), because Riese is back in all of his unhinged glory.
Seriously, I love you guys way too much to stay away, and I love writing stuff like this too much to not at least try again. Who knows; maybe I've improved enough to write something decent by now! *Crosses fingers*
It seems like a lot of oldbies are making a comeback lately, good to have you back! You won't remember me, since I joined just last March, so let me introduce myself. I'm Hattie, otherwise known as the Hetalian that comes the closest to being sane.

While this is here, I'll just run off a list of fandoms I'm familiar with. (Yes, there are rather a lot of them, for I read/watch/play far, far too much).
LoTR, Nasuverse (Fate/Stay Night and Tsukihime, mostly), the Dresden Files, Codex of Alera, the Honorverse, Everything Written by Tamora Pirece, Warhammer 40,000, Inheritance, Halo, Mass Effect, Star Wars, Star Trek, and others I can't remember right now.
If anyone's interested in any of these, and needs a partner for a mission, let me know.

(Seriously, the Honorverse is my absolute newest fandom - I pulled Torch of Freedom out of the library over summer, and was surprised to find a CD tucked in the back... after a week of boring night shifts, I'm now down as far as Echoes and still speeding through. It's good to read something new...)

(These books are making my workplace environment quite surreal - if there were anyone else in on these shifts, they'd be quite baffled by my sudden chuckles and exclamations of "Oh, that's clever." Fun times)

Most of Weber's work is excellent. I would recommend In Fury Born especially; he mixes science fiction with Greek mythology, and does it OH so well. Also, without giving too many spoilers, ....no, wait, never mind. But yeah. Read it.

... of starting in the middle of serieseses...es. Probably because that's what the library system has on hand. Still, it always throws me off at first. It's a testament to the quality of the writing in Torch that I went back to the CD. (Well, that and the fact that I didn't have anything else to read last week...)
(HTML! [i]Italics[/i] [b]Bold[/b] etc, but with instead of [ and ]. It throws a lot of people; don't fret it)

Oh, and - brilliant thing about [i]Fury[i] is that it's quite impossible to start mid-series, because there's on;y one book. It isn't Honorverse, but it's excellent. If it tells you anything, I've read it through over ten times, and my entire family's read it at least once.
Consider them a welcome-back present. And to go with them, here's a bag of s or ^s - or even vs in a pinch.
I've always loved the sort of long-series authors who occasionally write standalone books. The other one that springs to mind is David & Leigh Eddings - it takes ages and ages to get through the Belgariad-Mallorean(-BtS-PtS...), but if you want a 'quick' (for high fantasy) fix, Redemption of Althalus is right there on the shelf.
I suppose the same thing could be said for Terry Pratchett - or the Star Wars EU - but those books tend to work by themselves anyway, so it's a bit different. I suppose it's what Christopher Tolkien was trying to do with Children of Hurin, too... but I have a fanatic dislike for Turin, so that one didn't really swing me. :P

I'm kind of mixed about one-shots, honestly. A lot of them are good, and good just being a standalone. But occasionally, they leave me wanting more. It seems like the one book gives me just enough time to really get to know/become invested in the characters, and then BANG, it's over.
It drives me up the wall, especially when it's an author whose work I love. ...Well, I love most of Weber's stuff, but not all of it.

I don't usually look up translations of Rammstein songs. Some of them are frankly too NSFB for me when translated.

Of course as everyone knows I'm horribly prejudiced against Germans. Comes from the horrid atrocities they committed on my country back in... mm... sixth century? Seventh, too. Well, basically everything from the fall of Rome to the fall of the Heptarchy (after which, of course, it becomes the fault of the Norwegians).

Uh. Didn't know that. My bad. Also, if the Sue singing it knew most of Rammstein's OTHER songs, I suspect his/her/its brain might combust. They're normally WAAY too Sweetness And Light for metal. Now if it was an Edgy!Sue, maybe...

In my family it has become a rite of passage when you are able to curse multilingually.
IIRC, her favorite phrase went something like, "...and I said A THING to him/her. And s/he left. Didn't see much of him/her for a while after that."
That somehow fits. I'm not quite sure how, concerning her books are usually quite concise when it comes to detail, but it fits.
She was actually one of the instructors in a week-long Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Horror Writing seminar I attended at U Pitt a few years back. Editor of Asimov's (I cannot for the life of me remember her name) was there too. The whole thing was great fun.
I can imagine! That really must have been a wonderful experience.
