Pleased to meet you, and congratulations. May your pen never run out of ink and your word processor never freeze.
...And some newbies too.
Howdy all. Name's Saphie. The Suedom Saphie. The writer of the Constitution Saphie. The Saphie of Many Colors, if you will. The oldest of oldbies may remember me, but for you newbins, I was here on this board way back when it was first created and still on page one. After a few years here, I wandered off to other fandoms and such but I have many fond memories of afternoons in the school library spent faffing off with my fellow PPCers. It does my heart glad to see the place is still providing a place for haters of crappy stories to gather and have fun.
Anyhoo, I'm here for a slew of reasons.
1) If there's any Suedom fans still hanging around--and last time there were--I wanted to let people know that Andy and I have decided to finish it by way of making it into an entirely original story. We figured out a way (one that involves creating a fantasy world ala Middle-Earth wholecloth). It is going to portray the most epic of friendships and probably be a trilogy. It's not the first book we're planning to work on but we'll get there eventually.
2) I wanted to let folks know I'm writing original stuff now and working on my first book. It's one that totally rips on Fifty Shades of Grey, for those that hate that sort of thing. If you'd like to hear more about it, comment below. If you'd like to follow my progress, I have a twitter, plurk, and tumblr. (kirajlane, kpolil, and kirajlane are my usernames, respectively).
3) I just wanted to toss some love your way. Even you newbies that I don't know. This was the place where I learned several really important things that I've applied to my craft, like how to avoid making Mary Sues, how to take criticism, and how a little silliness is never a bad thing. Now that I'm working on my first book (and I have an editor lined up and everything and am a fair way in) I just sort of wanted to go back to my roots and give a little brofist of respect and appreciation.
Anywat, tis' all. And for those of you that are still in contact with old PPCers that aren't at the board anymore, let 'em know The Saphie Half says hi? (And also says hi on behalf of the Andy Half).
I've just joined this month, but my sanity has already been declared gone :) I hope your book becomes a success. I'll be looking out for it.
I joined around August last year, so I'm pretty new. So, you wrote the Constitution? I have to admit, it's very good. I was the one who wrote the new sections- please allow me to apologise for not keeping it in the same style as the rest.
Anyway, welcome back! Have a lava lamp and a violin that only plays rainbows.
I am technically on hiatus, due to taking a break and being busy and traveling and writing and stuff, but I'm suspending it temporarily to wave frantically and jump up and down and generally show my excitement and enthusiasm for you stopping by!
*pause for breathing*
Erm. Too much?
Heck, I don't even know if we talked at all. But I remember that either you or Andy (or both?) were a UU, so that automatically makes me feel a certain kinship, whether it's warranted by actual interaction or not. ^_^;
I am glad to hear that there will be some form of "Suedom" finished eventually, even if it's not the one I'm familiar with. I'm interested in anything PPCers get published For Real, actually. I'm afraid I don't have any of those newfangled social media doohickeys, though. {= (
So, yeah. Great to see you again, and best of luck with the publishing thing!
~Neshomeh, who will convey the greetings of both halves to her old PPC RP contacts on AIM.
Nice to meet you! I personally haven't been here that long (since around March I think) so it's nice to meet someone who was there from the beginning. My name's TheMadHatteress, but some people call me Hattie. Actually, nobody calls me Hattie, but you can if you would like. After taking a quick jaunt over to your tumblr I've become very interested in your Fifty Shades bashing story. I read Twilight because I thought that since everyone else was reading it it might be good, and one of the things that really irritated me was how mentally abusive Edward was to Bella. It's nice to see that someone understands what that behavior really signifies. Oh, and of course the Suedom story sounds marvelous. I can't wait to see the finished product!
I'm glad you like the idea! I had those same problems with Twilight, too, especially since I grew up in a really dysfunctional home situation. I'm sort of hypersensitive to stories like that and it bothers me when the author doesn't at least acknowledge the behavior as abusive or dysfunctional.
Hello there! I don't believe we've met before, as I only joined up in May (I'm not sure if that qualifies me as a newbie, but I'm certainly not old enough to remember you) but I'd like to give you a hearty welcome all the same. I'm interested in seeing how you turn Suedom into an original story, so please alert us when if comes out. It's cool to see someone from a community like this move on to professional writing, as that's something a lot of us strive for. In the meantime, have my friendship ancientbie, and welcome back.
I'm going to be self-publishing but I went to school for writing and I feel I've now reached the point where my writing is good enough to put out a book. The big thing to remember is that it takes hard work.
Also, as much as fanfic and things are fun, anyone who wants to write definitely needs to make time for original stuff too. I learned a LOT from fanfic, internet RP, and fandom, but there were some things I absolutely had to learn from school and writing my original stories, too.
I'll definitely alert everyone when the Suedom story is out. Should be a good while from now, but hopefully anyone that would be interested might still be hanging around.
Have a multicolored, seventeen foot long, wool knit scarf and a bag of jelly babies (curly wig not included).
Please use them IRresponsibly. :)
So, nice to meet you. I'm Miah--joined in February of 2010.
I have often wondered what would the true oldbies (that haven't hung around all this time like a few here) would think about the current crop of PPCers. Hopefully we're not doing too badly with the legacy, even if we do have bumps along the road.
Your re-worked Suedom novel sounds like it will be a very fun read.
I did always like the title "Doctor." /puts on scarf.
And honestly, from what I've seen, it's almost EXACTLY the same as it was when I was here. Just a bunch of people mocking good stories, enjoying good ones, and having fun together. I think it's great it's gone on for so long and I'm glad to see new people are still enjoying the stories and that the community is the same fun, welcoming community it was.
As for the new Suedom, that's excellent to hear! I'm really hoping it'll be a good way of redoing the whole thing.
I literally just yesterday got around to finishing Suedom, and was wondering when/if it was going to be finished. Your timing is impeccable (and slightly uncanny).
And while you're here, I just wanted to...eh, screw it.
SQUEEEEEEEEEEEE OHMYGOSHILOVEYOURSTUFFSOMUCHIT'SAMAZINGANDAWESOMEANDCOOLAND-
*BANG!*
*Shoves body out of chair*
I swear to god, that's the third inner fangirl this week! This is ridiculous!
Anyway, yeah, love your stuff, can't wait to read more of it!
The Squee Heard Round the World! Lol
It's nice to meet you, and when my books are out, I'll be sure to link them here.
So you were one of the first PPCers, huh? When it was still on fanfiction.net? Cool!
Welcome back!
Not quite right around the beginning. I jumped in around the time of the creation of this board, when it got booted off FF.net. That was still back aroooound 2000 or so though.
And thanks for the welcome!
Hello there! I'm here for little less than a year. Never heard of Suedom, but it sounds interesting.
Hey howdy hey!
Suedom was my first introduction to this not-excactly-shared-but-somewhat-overlapping universe. I read that before OFUM and before the Original Series (and yes, that was confusing at times, but I loved it). I was always sad, that the story was never finished.
I'd love to read the story you turn it into and everything else you write. The best of luck with it!
Oh WOW that is awesome to hear. Most people read the others first.
I'm glad you liked it. I'm really hoping we can give fans a satisfying ending with the original one.
New-oldbye (I just made two years here, so I am technically an oldbye... er, right?) Sergio Turbo reporting for duty! *salutes*
/salutes back
At ease, soldier.
Ah, Suedom... I've been reading that on and off. I must say, it's quite good and I am rather enjoying it. I've got as far as their arrival in the Harry Potter OFU.
Nice to meet you.
Nice to meet you too!
Hello hello!
The summary of your novel looks amazing. I'm pretty sure it makes the world better by its very existence.
It is excellent to see you again!
YAY KAITLYN HI KAITLYN HI
It's so good to see you again too. How's things?
I don't do much in fandom nowadays, but I do hang around to keep an eye on the PPC (can't turn my back for a minute, to be honest. ;)). And hS and I are keeping busy replenishing the earth with tiny little PPCers.
Hopefully all is well with you (both halves) too! It seems like it's been years since I've heard from either of you.
. . . actually, I think it has been years, which is a little bit mad. Time keeps happening when I least expect it . . .
Er, hi again. Um, I think this is where I apologise for being the main ripper-up-and-recycling of your Constitution...? Hopefully you're not too upset...
Anyway, it's awesome to see the Saphie Half! I still remember Suedom - I still remember writing badly-scanning fan-songs of Suedom, oh my - and while it's sad to think that the LotR-version won't be finished (although I know what you mean about looking back at your own old prose... got mah own solution to that one), it's amazing to hear that there will eventually be a completed version. And it's, er, let's come up with another word, great to hear you two are still together!
...
... working together, that is. Although you were the original OTP behind the PPC Shipfics (with bjam and BiD)...
Also your Fifty Shades/Drunken Bell concept/excerpt makes me smirk. Fun stuff.
And... oh, yeah. Speaking of old stories, I'm currently in the middle of a reboot of my Discworld OFU (which was quite bad)... you two may recall signing up...? Muahaha.
(And hi to Andy!)
hS
Oh no, don't apologize at all. The original was all over the place and didn't have some important rules in it. I like that you added sections banning homophobia, transphobia and other things. You did a great job updating it while still keeping the silliness.
As for the shipping, Anders and I kinda figure we're going to get a ton of them when we get published. Two cute author gals that are besties and hug each other a lot? C'mon.
But you can brag you did it first. XD
It's good to see you again!
...Wait, you wrote the Original Constitution?
*Salutes*
Stand to, everyone! Venerable Old One on the bridge!
In all seriousness, it is a pleasure to meet you.
Funny you should come in at this time, I've just mentioned "Suedom" a few threads down...
Yep! The original version.
XD Venerable old one. Well, if you're going to be an old one at all...
I'm a middlebie who's been slowly working on his first mission for about a year now. It's an honor to meet one of the Original Oldbies. Thanks to you, I've discovered Suedom, and what I've read of it so far seems very interesting. I like it.
Glad you like it! It's pretty badly written though, lol. Anders and I were pretty young when we wrote it.
It's really an honor to meet you. I'm a newbie according to PPC standards, and it's always humbling to meet those who have been here since the start. Especially when they have churned out as many wonderful pieces of work as you.
I wasn't here from the start-start, as I missed the initial run of PPC on ff.net but this board went up when they transferred to the oddlots site.
It's an honor to meet you too!
Pleased to meet you, and congratulations. May your pen never run out of ink and your word processor never freeze.
Hail and well met!
Well, I joined last December-ish. I guess I'm a middlebie?
Oh well. Hi! I'm going to go have to look for your original book-thing. Do you have a new title or are you calling it Suedom still?
It's not going to be out for a while, but if you follow me on twitter, tumblr, or plurk, I'll mention it when we start working on it.
As for a title, we have no idea yet. We're still just developing the concept.
The way the story will go now is two acquaintances that were friends as girls went their separate ways and had interesting lives, then circumstances conspire to bring them together again. They get pulled into the world of that Earth's most famous fantasy novel (not Lord of the Rings, we're making an original fantasy epic up) and discover that when they were teens that world was threatened by the ideas of people in their own reality. They fixed it, but only temporarily, and their minds were wiped of the memories of their adventure and they were sent back home. The two of them wrote a story about their adventures together, fueled by the memories buried in their subconscious, a silly fanfiction about two girls that go on a quest in their favorite fantasy world, but without the memories of how they'd bonded in place life circumstances managed to tear them apart.
Now the band-aid they put into place has failed and the threat is so awful that both worlds are threatened. They go on an adventure to fix the fantasy world and along the way, they use a copy of their poorly written fanfic about their adventures as a guide to figure out what happened the first time. Unfortunately, since they didn't remember the adventure and it came from their subconscious minds it's about as inaccurate sometimes as it is poorly written. As Fortunately, as they go along, they regain the memories and also rediscover the epic friendship they formed with each other that was ripped away from them.
And then they have to save the world yada yada.
So it has FOUR intertwined stories and will have excerpts from them. There's the entirely original fantasy story that was their worlds' version of Lord of the Rings. There's their first adventure together, experienced in flashbacks. There's the fanfic they wrote after their knowledge of the adventure was taken away. And there's the modern day story of them rediscovering it all and saving the worlds.
It's going to be pretty meta and complicated and epic.
But it's also going to be in development for a good while yet while we write other things first.
Hello! I forget if you were one of the many Boarders who welcomed me to the Board last month - probably not, since your handle doesn't seem too familiar - but I'm KittyNoodles. Massive Warcraft nerd (at least, I appear to know a fair amount more about the fandom than I initially realized) and fan of many other fandoms - like Lord of the Rings, Warriors, and Naruto.
And still a fan of Twilight - Carlisle is lovely, what can I say?
Also, you're so...shiny. Here from page one? Can I hug you?
Nah, I don't think we met. I haven't been in for months.
But you can have all the hugs ever!
/hugs
I loved reading Suedom, and I'm so excited to hear that it will continue in some form! I'll tell NenyaQuende you said hi; she and I still chat every now and then.
As you can see, I've been keeping myself busy, although I'll probably start to wind down my PPCings as I start to work on my own original stories.
Also, I'd like to echo what you said about the PPC helping you to learn so many important things about writing and characterization. I've come along way from being an "original" fic Suethor to being a fully competent writer, largely thanks to everyone here.
Have some Pink Stuff, on the house!
~Araeph
Hooray for pink stuff! /chugs.
That's the stuff.
And ooh, I hope you'll share your original stuff when you do it.
Whoops. :P
I'll definitely share my original stuff once the time comes. Right now, I'm busy with the 35-mission monstrosity that is "Wills Lover", but hopefully my agents can manage that with a minimum of pain.
Oh my god it's you! I remember meeting Andy like four years ago on here, and it's amazing to meet you as well because yes, I /adore/ Suedom. To the point where I borrowed the idea of a bridge between canon and badfics for an OFU of mine.
I highly look forward to reading your works! Gonna go stalk you on tumblr (I'm evil-sherlock-holmes) to see when you're releasing the Original Fiction!Suedom and other things. :D
It'same!
And I'm so glad you liked it, I really am. Even though I cringe at the prose, it's still near and dear to my heart. I was really happy so many got enjoyment out of it.
And normally I don't cheer at stalking but YEEEEY
Although the Suedom story is a while off. Anders and I both have individual novels we're working on right now and after that, we have a book we want to cowrite about samurai and Viking teenage dudes going on adventures to stop an evil empire.
But it's definitely in the queue. We've stewed up some great ideas for it and we're both trying to launch writing careers so we can do it full-time.
Anyway, the book I'm currently working on is this:
http://kirajlane.tumblr.com/post/30677150909/fifty-shades-of-suck
HI! :D
It's awesome to meet you (possibly again, I think I vaguely recall you wandering in quite a while back but was too awed to speak to you :P).
New books? And written by old PPCers? This should be awesome. I shall keep an eye out.
*brofists back* It's great to see some of the oldest oldbies return. :3
- Cassie, who is not quite so shy any more
Hi there! Nice to meet you officially.
No need to be awed, pfft. I'm just another silly person like anyone else.
Prelude: *squee!*
Hi! I don't think we've met, but it's absolutely good to see you around again; Suedom was one of the written works that brought me to the 'Board in the first place. And people who enjoy faffing on bad writing are always good to have around!
1) ...and again, squee! I absolutely can't wait to see where you guys go with it!
2) ...also squee! I shall be following forthwith.
3) *brofist*
I do hope to see you around!
I think I've seen you around the few times I peeked in while lurking but I don't think we've ever talked. So...
HI
And I'm so glad to hear that. Anders and I have a love-hate relationship with Suedom now, because we loved the ideas in it but hate our old writing since we've improved so much. Rather than trying to fix the whole thing, we decided just to make an original story out of it and do the absolute best we can to make it a good piece of lit.
That said, it's still great to hear people are enjoying it.
/brofists back
I'll probably only peek in sporadically but I'll definitely be back to say hi now and again.
Oh pfft. And that's the writer of the ORIGINAL Constitution by the way. I see you've updated it. Some of the silly bits that are holdovers of the old one are from the one I wroted.
