Chicago gathering 2022, round 2? by

About half a year ago, I proposed a Chacago Gathering for summer 2022. After that, I promptly forgot to do any followup until Nesh reminded me about the plans a week or so ago.
So ... are people still thinking this is a thing that might happen? Who might be interested?

Since it might help with coordination to have a concrete thing for people to agree to or oppose - let's have the Gathering on Nesh's birthday!

I'll check no one else in building departments have claimed those dates as off time . . . by

paperwork to get off time until we've officially settled, but yeah. This is looking . . . like a plan?
doctorlit is on his phone during a bathroom break and is too lazy to type in the html code for the emdash that should have appeared at the start of this signature

Maybe when this thread drops off the front page, we should have a new thread proposing June 11-12 and see if we get any further response for or against?
How much lead time do you need?

The first question that comes to mind by

is whether we try and have this during the long weekend (July 2-4), which has the advantages of conteijung a holiday but the disadvantages of being travel chaos, or some other weekend in June or July (which will probably be less expensive but risks fewer people being able to make it)

My suggestions by

- Memorial Day weekend, May 28-30
- Juneteenth weekend, June 18-20
Or, yeah, there are definitely merits to picking a non-holiday weekend for the sake of avoiding other people traveling/visiting the city during the holidays, if having a Monday already off doesn't especially help anyone.
- Perhaps the weekend of June 11-12? The 11th is my birthday. ^_^

I definitely want to, as long as we settle on a date well in advance so I can get shifts covered. by

(Zookeepers don't get federal holidays off, obviously, so that aspect doesn't affect me directly.)

I couldn't do any earlier than early May; we have a soft ban on taking time off during busy season. (nm) by

It depends on two things: Am I at college yet and can I take buses or another transit all the way there? Both have to be yes.
I'm gonna do some research to see if I can go. So, right now, it's definetly a maybe.

We can still offer 1-3 free beds, too. Since COVID is unfortunately still a thing and is unlikely to not be a thing anytime soon, we must insist anyone who wants to stay with us be fully vaccinated and get a negative test before coming. We're both vaccinated and will test, too. (Would recommend that everyone get tested before and after travelling, in general.) And FYI, we do in fact now have a cat. ^_^
Just to get the ball rolling, I'd like to propose Memorial Day weekend, which is May 28-30. Might be helpful for those of us with jobs. Alternatively, maybe Juneteenth weekend (June 18-20)?
The Lincoln Park Zoo remains my top suggestion for an outing, since it's free and largely outdoors.
