In which they visit a temporary haunted house attraction in the HQ. Warning for bl2 mentions both in the interlude itself and the children's story it references – after all, this is a Halloween story.
Hey, this was great! I wasn't familiar with the original story, but you explained it well enough that I understood how the characters were feeling about the situation. And, uh, yeah, the actual nature of the haunted house is perfect PPC! I especially love the detail that the 4DK were clearly being observed the whole time, but only for the sake of being messed with.
Also, I like that this isn't just a World One-style haunted house, but requires use of canon knowledge in order to work for the guests. I wonder what other meta-involving scare houses have popped up in HQ over the years . . .

I don't know, and haven't thought of, who runs the haunted house either, much like how the original story never makes clear who runs the restaurant of many orders. I'll give Boarders free reign to theorize on the identity of person/people behind the haunted house.
So I suggest that A Troupe By Any Other Name or some other theatre group in HQ is responsible.
