In Britain, at least, and I think most of Europe, that's Remembrance Day, or Armistice Day, which started as a way to remember how gut-wrenchingly horrific the First World War was, and how we never wanted to see its like again.
The UK government is currently declaring it's about British Values instead.

Perhaps I misunderstood.
Perhaps they were never memorials to futile deaths
But monuments to glorious warriors.
Perhaps I was naïve.
Perhaps war is justified
And death is justified
And killing and killing and killing is justified.
Perhaps I am a romantic.
But when we said 'never again'
I thought we meant it.

Mother's Day in the US grew out of a women's peace movement in response to the American Civil War, recognizing the destruction of families on both sides and encouraging reconciliation. (See particularly: Mother's Day Proclamation.) It failed to gain traction until it was pitched as a day for each family to honor their mother, instead.
Not that we shouldn't do that. But the anti-war thing is also important.
