This week, only Helena and Sheen mission a PotC Suefic with really bad punctuation, even though all three fairies have agreed to mission together. What is Fáelán up to?
Helena is so much fun to read on missions. She really scratches the same kinds of itch I would get, if I could explore a canon: getting to look in all the little corners and hidden areas we don’t get to see watching the original movie. (Or whatever medium.) What books would Governor Swann have in his private library? How did the air and ocean smell in the pre-industrial 1700s? What food was available to the characters? It’s so fun to think about the little details beyond the presented plot, the little details we would take for granted if we lived there all the time. As for Sheen, all I can say is, yeah, he would like a lawful neutral (during the first film) character like Norrington, wouldn’t he?
The image of the upper class British folks playing in a McDonald’s-style ball pit due to the “ball room” spacing is hilarious; Dashcon 1710, anyone? I also liked the period rain becoming the default weather for the entire fic, and the one Misspelled Monkey assisting the agents in bailing out the ship.
Tia Dalma blurting out that she’s an imprisoned sea god is extremely funny to me, for some reason. Just . . . giving away the plot of the third movie to someone she just met—Though to be fair, within the conceit of Maria also being an imprisoned god, it does make a decent amount of sense. It’s still incredibly funny to me, though.
