They make Legos of everything. Pirates of the Caribbean... Avatar: the Last Airbender... The Avengers... If they think they can make money off it, they will make it. Then children will pester their parents into buying it, and leave sharp little Legos scattered around the house where I will step on them with my bare feet.
I kid you not. Lego is releasing a Lord of the Rings line. What is your reaction? I found out about it through my sister, who get's the Lego magazine.

Because that means a NEW LEGO VIDEO GAME! And I LOVE those.
I'm still a big fan of Lego, and think that they've done some good stuff with the other movie-verses that they've done (particulalry some of the Star Wars sets). Although the ones that I like tend to be vehicles, which obviously there is far less potential for in LotR.
Would very much like to see a nice large scale Lego rendition of Helm's Deep though.
The magazine had a few kits shown. There was Helm's Deep, which looked good, but was pretty small. I want to see Minas Tirith, even if it's just an Architecture-esque kit.
I'll check 'em out when it finally comes through.

And then they'll make Lego Video Games of them and sell them to both chicldren and adults.
In this case, I'm thinking of my stepfather, who has Lego Indiana Jones for... his Xbox 360, I believe.

I've only played the Pirates of the Caribbean one myself, but I found it to be thoroughly enjoyable.
I for one would welcome a Lego LotR game, and so what if it'd probably be based on the film trilogy rather than the books; I still think it'd be good fun.
...if you have the time and money to make a good, enjoyable game for a movie, why not make it just the movie? Why throw in the Lego name and Lego-ify everyone?
I mean, giving it the Lego name makes it seem like it's for children, which puts off quite a few older gamers...Plus that Indiana Jones game was quite fun.
... in some ways I think that adding the Lego name, and Legoifying all involved, actually helped make the games better.
By reducing everything to a simple visual state, you can spend more time on things like the plot and gameplay. I'm not saying that games can't have stunning visuals AND good gameplay, but if you're dealing with finite resources (not just money in developing the game, but also processing power and memory when it comes to actually running it), focusing less on making things look pretty might help when it comes to allocating a little more on making the game fun to play.
Final Fantasy XIII is one of the most visually impressive games I've played; in fact, I bought my PS3 solely for the purpose of playing that game. But the story didn't grip me anywhere near as much as the stories of FF VII and FF VIII, and I've since gone back to replay both of those. The Lego Pirates of the Caribbean game was just unbelievably good fun to play, even though the visuals weren't top-of-the-line.
Personally, I'm not too bothered by what a game looks like, as long as I can tell all the characters apart etc., and with a big movie tie-in game like Lord of the Rings, I think there would be so much pressure to make the game look as good as the films, that it could easily end up loosing out on gameplay. A Lego game would nicely avoid all that hassle, although it may well bring in new complications anyway...
Whatever, if a Lego LotR game does get released, I'll certainly check it out.
The lego games are just really fun to play. Just an ordinary Lord of the rings game would be fine, but I think the lego aspect actually adds accessibility to it.
I'll play it when it comes out.
ps. Tiny rec here, but if you want to play a LotR game with ordinary graphics, Lord of the Rings Online is both awesome and free.
