So I've just discovered (entirely by accident) that we have not one but two copies of Maglor Feanorion running around the PPC: Dafydd Illian and Hawthorne Agamemnon Morgan. I think that's awesome, and if Dafydd wasn't retired, I'd be trying to arrange a meeting.
Then I remembered the existence of Team Phoenix, and specifically Alec Trevelyan, and I got to wondering: how many other copies, replacements and dopplegangers of canon characters does the PPC have on the books? 'cause they should totally have a party.
hS
I have a saiyan who was going to be one of those, "And he looked like X character but..." characters. So he looks kind of like Vegeta, but is definitely not Vegeta.
Tray and I recruited Wusiji Doctor and Oujide Doctor in our last mission, copies of Professor Elm and Oak, respectively, who speak in poorly translated English. I have plans for them... and yeah, I think a party would be awesome.
In his homefic, Kelok was supposed to be Todd the Wraith from Stargate Atlantis.
The characterization was so far off that he was deemed an OC that couldn't assimilate into the background, and he was recruited. Since he was supposed to be Todd, he has some memories of being Todd, but they are terribly faint and usually just leave him with confusing bad dreams. He has only a passing physical similarity to Todd, and completely lacks the distinctive, and awesome, deep voice that Todd has. Also, thankfully, he lacks the ambition and drive to rule two galaxies that Todd had, or he couldn't have been recruited.
I have a character that I recruited from one of my Floaters' missions who's basically characterized as a replacement of Raoul de Chagny of Phantom of the Opera (when Suefluence is removed, that is). It's especially telling that he's a wolf, but I imagine he'd have some crazy things going there for them.
And you're right, they should totally have a party.
Interesting. I can imagine what happens if there is a James Bond copy there with Trevelyan, or if other enemies meet. I'd want to see it happen (or just laugh maniacally while everyone fights.)
See, my agent, Grace, was originally intended to be an OC, but ended up (due to lack of characterisation and effort) as a female clone of Connor Temple. I don't know if she counts or not, but if she does, she'd love to go to this party.
Because if so, that's awesome.

Yep, Primeval's Connor. :)
Poor lovably incompetant Connor... hmm, I've just discovered that I entirely missed the existence of Series 5. And a Canadian spinoff? Good grief.
hS
I'll admit that Grace and Connor aren't that similar, but Grace (or 'Cameron' as she was originally known) was supposed to be Connor's sensible sister who didn't crack jokes and spent her time wistfully staring at Cutter and building machinery. Well, that and Grace tries her hardest to avoid being similar to Connor because she doesn't want to revert back into clonedom. All they really share is that they can't shoot.
Don't feel bad, I haven't watched past season 2 (*is painfully aware of the season 3 DVD sitting unwatched in the pile*). Killing off Stephen made me too depressed.
Wait till you see who they killed off in 3.
(... which ends on a massive cliffhanger, and then the series was cancelled for three years. So cruel...!)
hS
I know who they killed off in 3. *sobs* Why, dammit, why?
I have to admit, the show did win points for not being afraid to kill off characters. Wiping out Claudia Brown was brilliant, though sadistic.
I was really surprised Claudia never came back, actually... but yeah, there's not a whole lot of shows where anyone really can die.
Unfortunately, with Helen presumed dead (... again...), the villains are a lot less interesting. Except the ones which are giant ancient monsters with massive pointy teeth, they're still kind of cool.
hS
I would have loved it if they brought Claudia back, but... yeah. Or anyone else they killed. But, it's pretty good that they don't use time travel to cheat death- it reinforces the 'anyone can die' thing.
Oh, I loved the giant ancient monsters. That was the one thing that kept me watching when I hated the character subplots *cough*Stephen and Helen*cough*- after all, watching Stephen and Cutter playing tag on motorbikes with a raptor is enough to keep anyone entertained.
Do you think my house cat reincarnation of Murdoc Niccals could attend? He'd probably just leave presents in any unattended shoes, but still.
I loves it. Perhaps my ooc-Sherlock-Holmes-from-a-badfic can show up.
He became aware of his fictional incarnations (due to being transferred to the modern world) and started wearing a deerstalker hat and a bright blue scarf. Just for irony. XD
My Agent Derik, formerly E'rik, is a photocopy of movie!Phantom of the Opera. (Dare I say, a PotOcopy?) He was never actually purported to be the same character, fortunately. Not that the entire thing being coincidental makes sense. >.>
Agent Suicide, of course, is a clone of the Suicide from Gates of Fire, created by means of a missing apostrophe in Tungsten Monk's printing of the book, as I recall.
I remember a Wash clone being recruited, I think by Rez and Flip, though I don't think we've seen him since.
Marsha the Triceratops was a character replacement for Cera the Three-horn.
Eclectica is "an Eccentrica Gallumbits ripoff," according to her wiki page. (I have no idea who Eccentrica Gallumbits is.)
In addition to Team Phoenix, a few other dead canons have appeared in the PPC post-resurrection: Behnashiren and Jara Hamee come to mind. Just to be clear, though, this sort of thing is discouraged anymore, since ripping actual canon characters out of their canonical deaths just so we can play with them is kind of hypocritical for an organization that's supposed to preserve the canon.
... That's a bit more than a few, actually.
~Neshomeh
I'm not sure if Paddlebrains counts, being an alternate (and nutty :P) version of Sirius Black, even if she has retired. Thought I'd suggest her anyway.
I believe the Wash clone appeared in one of Trojie and Pads' missions - the SGA Sue, They needed him to fly a ship that I can't remember off the top of my head.
Eccentrica Gallumbits is mentioned in The HitchHiker's Guide To The Galaxy. She's apparently a famous prostitute.
... can you think of a better description? With the possible exception of Derik, these people are clearly linked in some way, but you're right, they're none of them former canons (since, by definition, a canon character is written by the original author - and no published authors have written their characters into the PPC yet). So what can we call them? They're not all replacements, not all copies... what are they?
And can they have a party? :P
hS
Pale imitations? They're not as good as the originals?
It sounds too negative. And mean.
... just straight 'Copies of Canon Characters'. That seems to cover all the bases (even allowing people like Derik and Pads), and gives us a ready-made category if a character replacement ever becomes important outside of HQ.
hS
"Imitations" might be the way to go. It's splitting hairs, but I think "copy" has a more physical connotation, and "imitation" can mean anything from looks to behavior to whatever, and it's also built in that there can be poor or excellent imitations, though possibly with a bias toward "poor." If something is copied, on the other hand, I think the standard assumption is an exact physical copy.
Does that make sense?
(Also, that was you on the wiki? How come you were logged out for the category stuff, but not everything else?)
~Neshomeh
But what about people like the Mysterious Somebody, who was probably an actual clone, not just a badfic one?
(Yeah - work computer, IE 'In Private', closed the window and forgot to sign back in. Pity - one more categorisation and I get a badge ;)
hS
Still, it's only applicable if the character actually is from a badfic.
Or copied from, or ripped off from... it's all very clumsy.
Imitations still sounds very negative, copies, clones and replicas are all too precise...
hS
"Alternate Versions of Canon Characters" (e.g. Pads, Dafydd, Suicide), "Former Character Replacements" (self-explanatory), and... eh, do we have to glorify the few actual canons who were recruited by giving them a category? As I recall, even Chatvert agrees it was a bad idea now.
I think that still leaves Derik sans category, but that's okay.
Or we could resist the urge to categorize everything, but that may be asking too much. {= )
~Neshomeh
If a copy of canon character or not, better leave it for the Agent's page.
It's actually a fairly disorganized category, since it includes everything from types of badfic characters to agents recruited from badfics. Current sub-categories are "Reformed Sues," "Slain Mary Sues," and "Sue and Stu Classifications."
~Neshomeh
That should pretty much cover all the different types. Badfic clones, recruited canons, AU versions, even Derik. Might be a bit too broad when taken literally, but we can use our discretion concerning which characters belong.
Or BOCC's for short.
Bocks? Bocce? I don't know. XD
... we can speak Bocce?
hS, geeky
JUST so that we can make 3PO jokes. XD
... including Fangirl. :P
hS
I speak Fangrelvish, Fangirl Japanese, and Fangirl-Squeal.
Sergio Turbo has the character Nikki Cherryflower, who's a Kinomoto Sakura replacement. My agent Ari is a replacement of Alicia Testarossa, and in the next two missions, there's going to be two more Alicia Testarossas. Don't tell Luxury that there's three copies of the same girl with different personalities running around.
She's barely legal age, and if Agent Sergio discovers about that it will trigger both bad memories (His first mission was with Luxury. I still need to get around writing that, though) and homicidial rage (Nikki's a badfic clone of his LO after all. And she's the rookie he's training too.)
Good think Nikki stopped wearing school uniforms after recruiting. It seems that Luxury has a fetish for those.
Wait, is there something Luxury doesn't have a fetish for?
