Rainbow Factory
Rainbow Dash runs the Rainbow Factory, where bad fliers are made into rainbows.
My comment: *gibbers in Angrish for five minutes*
On a not-unrelated topic, I wonder what Alice would make of MLP: FIM.
...I'm not brave enough to read this.
'Bout on par with Cupcakes. Better written, but still not horribly scarring.
... some unhealthy obsession with Rainbow Dash in badfic. Does anybody have an explanation for this?
Aside from that, my hate for this fic burns with the force of a thousand Class-O stars.
Many authors tend to make gritty versions of the lighthearted and innocent fandoms that the world can offer. They're probably aiming on making cute things into badass versions of their former selves... which spectacularly fails on daily term basis and earns the hate of every fans, purists and moderates.
Not to say the fanbase is bad, or any individual fan is bad, or that we can assume the exact motives of any given fan writer. But I think this kind of phenomenon is comparable to when something, say a book, comes out as a movie. Suddenly you have a vast new fanbase, and as a result, a fanfic explosion.
A lot of the pony fan community, I think, is still trying to hammer out its identity and reconcile the fact that many of them came from places totally different from pony. Hence a lot of tone and canon clashes that go beyond just stylistic interpretation.
For Lord of the Rings, the fandom issue was 'I have never read the books, but I saw the movie once and want to write about it!'
For pony, it might be, 'I rarely delve into a setting this lighthearted and now I need to adapt from writing about zombie apocalypse to writing about Rainbow Dash and baked goods.'
Of course, it's wrong to assume this holds for all people or all fans, or that we can assume any individual fan motive. But this does seem to be a trend...
No no no no no no nononononononononononononono
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
You know something's terrible if I forsake proper grammar to express my horror! The fact that it was decently written only makes it worse! By the Emperor why?!
Wh-what is... I... *SOB*
I have not been so horrified since I made the mistake of reading Cupcakes... and at least Cupcakes kept Pinkie weirdly and creepily IC personality-wise, if not action-wise.
WHY, FANDOM? WHYYYYY?
Where's the Bleepka? I need it badly right now.
Seriously... someone please just kill it. I don't think I trust myself to stay calm and restrained if I did it myself...
That MLP needs a little more action and violence. The author thinks that this is a good idea to make cute and lighthearted characters to kill and do some unspeakably violent stuff onto others but it's not. Sure, s/he has done a great job in writing it properly but that's just it, the plot behind the fanfic is horrible enough that it's making me cry.
The author must have ignored a lot of rules in fanfic writing and his conscience that tells him to stop writing it. S/he calls it art, I call it a huge, steaming pile of turd. It's available for sporking but someone might lose their minds in the process.
You are getting dangerously close to bashing the author here, Aile. You don't know what the author was thinking. You also can't say that they ignored their conscience, just because they wrote something that offends you.
I know that I've talked to you about this sort of thing before and I can tell that you are upset, just like last time. So, here is my advice: It is rarely a good idea to post when you are upset. Take a break, cool your head, and then come back to post.
But after reading that fic ticks me off in every ways possible. It's like turning a kiddie show into some slasher fest with huge amounts of blood and gore. I really hate it when something that is supposed to be lighthearted and innocent turned into the fic with... bloody realities of the world...
The author's good, I'll give him that. Heck, s/he is better than me in writing and such. But his/her talents are a bit wasted when s/he wrote this.
I apologize for throwing a fit and wildly accusing the author and his mentality.
I don't know if the author made that term up, but, 'gluefic'? Really now?
Also...
*munches (nm)&(nm)s
I don't know anything about this Rainbow Dash but I can tell that a lot of stuff don't mix in here...
Violence, blood, gore, and darkness does not mix with anything that does not portray such things at all. I'd say that the author must have been sadistic, dark, disturbed, and/or bored enough to write this sick pile of cow manure.
May Elimine guide this author's poor soul to the right path... if s/he have any.
