My grandmother was legally blind for the final few years of her life. In bright light, she could usually make out the color red. There is no way she could have done as much as Columbus did in this fic, even if we skip over the fact that she was too intelligent to continue driving once her eyesight started to go.

...You know, the descriptions of what Columbus can see are pretty close to what I see when I don't have my contacts in/glasses on. (Nearsighted, with a side order of astigmatism in one eye.) Trust me, there ain't no way I'm driving or shooting effectively without corrective lenses, but I'm also not helpless without a live-in caretaker.

And I was just ranting about disability fail, too. Yeah, blindness does not work that way. It's like they just used it as a random plot device and forgot about it the rest of the time.

Plus--"Caretaker"? Really? I mean, maybe you'd have somebody to drive you places, or something, but since when did blindness require a live-in caretaker?

And yeah, blindness totally does not work like that. I was actually half expecting it to turn into a painting by Claude Monet by the time Cadmar mentioned The Blob.

Also, Lucius needs to see more things. Crazy, crazy times are had with that.
