aka... the latest issue of Empire Magazine includes an article behind-the-scenes on the Hobbit set.
Highlights (at least for me):
Frodo will only be part of the framing story. He's reading Bilbo's story, and it will end with him putting the book down and embarking on the voyage to the Grey Havens.
I'm excited because of Martin Freeman as Bilbo and Benedict Cumberbatch as Smaug and Sauron. Mainly because I'm a shameless Sherlock fan, of course. Forget the badfic, I'm looking forward to the movie!
Benedict Cumberbatch is Smaug and Sauron?! Awesome!
Now I'm incautiously optimistic.
But yes. Still awesome.
I know I won't be able to see Stephen Fry as anyone other than himself, so that's not great...but I remain cautiously optimistic.
I can see one way in which Frodo can be involved without it being bad, and that is if the story is framed as Bilbo telling Frodo about the adventures. Part of me thinks this would, in fact, be an excellent way of doing it as it would allow Bilbo's thoughts to be expressed in a reasonable way.
My preemptive revue: The book is better. :D
