Actually, it's the 150th anniversary of Italy as we know it today. Before that, it was a mashup of little independent states.

Is it the date that has something to do with King Emanuel? (excuse me if I spelled it wrong)
It's the date in which he was proclaimed King of Italy, so Italy exists from March 17th 1861.
