I had this cool idea about a cyberpunk world with elements of both fantasy and science fiction (and for the past five months my mind has been filled with the details of the crystalline growth that sprouts on everything and is used as a power source). I had this very snarky roguish-thief archetype, and she had a girlfriend who was a mage trained at the Government Academy, but she left, and this was a huge deal because mages without the academy's support and supplements tend to whither and fade and go into a sort of withdrawal and eventually outright die, and they're trying to keep her alive but they aren't sure which of the academy's odd habits were what keeps the mages alive, so they're just guessing. And there was also this trained, very powerful soldier who'd gone AWOL and the thief girl basically blackmailed him into joining up with them, and all of them were going to have to go on the run and try and find a way to live free and on their own, and just escape. (And at one point I was going to give them a couple of young children sort of dumped in their laps to protect, too.)

Sadly, there are signs that Life is going to happen in November with a vengeance, and I'm going to get about a thousand words, especially if I'm shooting for a goal. So I don't think I can write it this year. (Instead, I will bore people to death talking about it on message boards).
