That causes people to pick it for their badfic?
My Immortal reviews
Cologne gives Ranma an ultimetium. Will he go with the Amazons or will there be consequances? Yes, this is a crossover.
Crossover - Ranma & Love Hina - Rated: T - English - Friendship/Hurt/Comfort - Chapters: 1 - Words: 13,709 - Reviews: 11 - Published: 9-1-10 - Ranma & Keitaro U.
Why must badfic writers spoil good music? (In my own opinion, at least)
Granted, I've made this sort of mistake myself in the past... but I'm over that.
Which, actually, isn't that bad of a song, but it's... Whiny and emo and pretty at the same time, and the band seems to be hugely popular among the more "Artistic" and "Sensitive" strain of thirteen year old girls. Which category, I'm afraid, I used to fall into, though I never actually wrote fanfic, and was far more fond of "Tourniquet" on the same album...
In any case, my caffeine-fuelled rambling will end.
Nine Inch Nails endures some pretty nasty misuse in songfics, and Gorillaz have their own problems (see my last-but-one Bad Slash mission), but the Decemberists remain untouched :) Voltaire and Emilie Autumn seem pretty safe too.
Although the absolute worst those things can get is "lazy and garish," thankfully.
... is a fanvid about Kovu from Lion King 2 based on "The Chimbley Sweep", which a) has nothing to do with him in the slightest and b) is a decidedly creepy song to pick. I can't help but wonder if the maker actually listened to the third verse there. (Anyone familiar with the song will know what I mean.) Then there was a creepy pro-anorexia vid with "Odalisque" as backing music, and I'm baffled as to why.
Could be worse. I heard rumours of "My Friends" from Sweeney Todd being used as the backing music for a slideshow of pictures of ponies. Yeah.
I could have lived without seeing Yuna badly lip-synced to "I Want My Innocence Back," or random clips of Namine to "Redlight District", myself. I'm not sure you know much of either of those fandoms, but the first mostly involved footage from a very cheerful (CGI) pop concert, and Namine is a very pure-looking character who appears to be about 12.
Though the Higurashi one to "Miss Lucy Had Some Leeches" was pretty good. Reminds me, I've gotta have Molly sing that song and worry everyone by NOT asking what the subverted rhyme words are.
I'm still wondering if the "Chimbley Sweep" fanvid makers paid attention to the third verse where the, er, metaphor is made explicit. I feel so bad for liking that song because of the subject matter, but the tune is ridiculously cheerful and addictive. One day I'm going to get caught singing it and have an embarrassing explanation ahead of me.
And thankfully my current favorite is a relatively unknown folk/filk singer, so I doubt anyone who actually knows who she is would write bad Songfic... Though it would be amusing with certain of her songs, since it would be song!fic about fic!song...
Anyway. I'm caffeinated, so probably shouldn't speak right now.
