It is ninety-two degrees here, the air is thick with humidity and the ozone layer is at ground level and trying to kill us all. But within my head, molecular motion has nearly ceased.
The stupid troll of stupid is back. The Nameless Admin had to take drastic measures to keep the stupid thing away - and, seeing as it's still trying to post, he's not going to mention how to get around it.
We happen to have a shiny IRC, and also The Other Board, whose link can be found on the Wiki. Ways to post here can be found there.

As it stands, the board will only let The Nameless Admin ban a single IP address - this latest attack came from no less than twelve, and the ranges suggest it could have access to up to thirty. Nonetheless, it's going to die with much painfulness.
If we're trying to avoid giving the spammer a link to The Other Board... why is it up at the very to of the page in bold font?
The board should still work as usual, mostly, for most of the time. There are a few very specific things that I'm doing to combat the ypur stampede. Please forgive the occasional interruptions in service, there's only so many things that can be done to allow the right people to post and prohibit the wrong ones.
...And I need some help fixing it very badly. Two threads above this one, I put an evac notice up in big bold letters, and put in the link to the Message Board. I was just doing it since I didn't think new people would know how to get to there, and I didn't think anything through. Please take it down when you get the chance. If it would be faster to delete my account or something, that's fine. I'm so sorry.
Everybody messes up. Everybody. You, me, July, and the Admin, who is me, and thus has messed up every bit as much as I. There's no need to shave your head and move to Tibet because you misread a situation, especially one with as many different potential interpretations as a spam-bot bombarding the board. There's no need to go into Pennance Mode because July snapped at you.
...I'm just worried about the Board. The idea of the PPC shutting down seems to sort of be one of my freakout buttons.
So...while I am in Pennance Mode, is there anything productive I could be doing?

As you bloody well know. And telling someone to shut up and go away for apologizing for a mistake-- especially when they're not even apologizing to you-- violates at least one rule of the Constitution.
Otherwise this is going to get ugly. I agree with you, VM, but I don't think this is the time for it. Let's wait until everyone's heads cool off, okay?

Both on this thread and elsewhere. Whatever Ed has done, right or wrong, is over and finished and any problems are in the hands of The Nameless Admin, who is more than capable of fixing them without bile. Kindly do not fight. And KG, don't you go taking this personally either. Yes, Ed bungled up, but both you and July have snapped at him now and I'm sick of it, but it was essentially over. There's no need to start it up again.

Then you won't take this personally either: Kindly stop telling him what to do. If you absolutely must because your fingers are itching on the keyboard, then at least be more polite about it. It may not sound rude in your head when you type it, but it can very easily come across that way; as I type this, it sounds very calm and reasonable to me, but I can well imagine that you'll take it as a scolding or a rant. It's not. Please, just... don't reply. There's simply no need.
If there are two things we of the PPC are good at, it's weathering spam storms and making the same mistakes. Everyone's done something embarrassing like that, and we've all snapped at each other at some point. Linger in 'Pennance Mode' for a while if you like, but don't stay too long, or we'll drag you out by your toenails ;p
And no, I don't think there's anything in particular you - or I, or anyone - can do right now. Except maybe prepare some nets for ypur catching. :)
