May it inspire you to new heights.
I'm a fanfiction writer named Elemarth. I like making original characters and avoiding canon characters because it's hard to keep to canon, especially in Star Wars, where I don't really know much EU canon (and think 3/4 of it is ridiculous). I read Star Wars, Young Wizards, and Lord of the Rings fanfics and have written at least one story for each and one crossover with all three and Harry Potter. It's not terrible, either, though you would protest at its lack of canon (especially for HP). Romance is not a major thing in my stories, either, so I escape typical badfic that way.
I am a history student in college. I intend to be a high school teacher and an author (though I'm not taking creative writing classes). I've been writing seriously since I was twelve and wrote my first fanfiction (the crossover) when I was fourteen, though I had been making up (usually Mary Sue) original characters since I was... maybe five. Definitely six, when I watched The Lion King. I love creating characters and worlds but am not very good at forming plots yet. I loathe bad grammar speling,
paragraph breaks, and so forth......
I also like to write long posts. ^_^
I am interested in Star Wars Improbable AU with maybe some Young Wizards on the side (the stories there are generally brief and not really worth PPCing). Lord of the Rings has enough agents already. Of course, I have to get time to write fanfiction again, so it might be two or three months before I do anything (I'm desperately trying to finish an original fiction series). I do have agent ideas, though.
Questions:
Who has read the Star Wars OFU? It's been taken down. I'm curious what was in it and who the mini-Rancors were. I want to claim a mini-Rancor called Anikin because that's the only SW mispelling I distinctly remember having done myself... multiple times.
Also, Improbable AUs don't have to include original characters, do they? Because I'm pretty sure most in the SW fandom don't, but they still need PPCing.
Welcome to the Board! Please deposit your sanity in the provided receptacle. *indicates bucket marked "Warg Fodder"* You shan't need it here. Also, here is some peanut butter.
I agree that the Star Wars EU is a ridiculous mass of info to keep track of. It's almost a shame SW is so popular, because of all the franchising it suffers from.
Anyway, have a lightsaber cheese slicer (pocket sized for convenience and, yes, blatantly stolen from Family Guy) and a cooked leg of Gamorrean to feed to Anikin.
Have a calculator. A sentient calculator. That will sing K-pop whenever you turn it on. :)
and welcome to the PPC!
I think similarly about original characters, with the additional explanation that you can have a lot more fun with a character you create yourself, because you don't have to stay within a pre-designed template. Neither do I go out of my way to include romance in anything I write. If it seems to be something that would develop between two characters, great! Otherwise, there's not much reason to include it, and even less of a chance that it would be believable.
I also find bad grammar, spelling, etc. increasingly annoying, and usually story-breaking flaws. For example, in a story I recently read (published, even!), the author used incorrect grammar in two out of two Spanish sentences. I was stuck at that part for over a quarter of an hour, and that's with only a year of Spanish!
I'm afraid I can't help you find the Star Wars OFU, or tell you anything that happened in it—it was way before my time. I will agree with what other people have said about your last question: the PPC deals with bad writing, not Mary Sues.
Oh, and, as you can tell, I also have a tendency to write long posts.
It's metallic and twice as long as your arm. Very useful weapon.
Always good to see a new face :)
Omnomnomnom.
Ow. Metal pretzels are bad for nomming.
Thanks, but is the pretzel twice as long as my arm when it's untangled, or is it as wide as my arm? Also, is it edible and if so, does it taste good enough to be worth eating if that means I won't have it as a decoration and/or weapon anymore?
By the way, I fully expect to have these gifts show up in my stories when I get around to writing them.
Oh, that would be interesting. Many of us neglect to mention our newbie gifts in our missions - must remedy that...
To answer your question, I have no idea. The wonderful thing about the PPC is that nothing is defined until you say so. I was picturing something like a deformed set of handcuffs, just without any chain parts; something that can be used to smack 'Sues unconcious fairly effectively, but it's up to you. :)
Perhaps it's like Dwarf Battle Bread in Discworld?
Here, have a Frying Pan of DOOMtm. It's useful for clocking 'Stus and 'Sues over the head so they don't run away while you're charging them. Plus, it can be used to cook with. Alton Brown, geeky chef and allower of only one unitasker in his kitchen (the fire extinguisher), would approve.
Hello! Have a seventeen foot long, multicolored, wool, knit scarf (curly wig not included), and a bag of jelly babies.
Please use them IRresponsibly!
You mean jelly beans, right, not actual babies made of jelly? *shudders*
I think I'm getting into PPC mode already, considering I picked up on that.
If you're from the US, think Sour Patch Kids, except without the sour coating, IIRC. Here, this'll help: Jelly Babies
Being from the US I was never entirely certain what they were. I thought either some kind of gummy bear type candy or jelly beans. I have actually been wondering how long it would be until someone pointed out the name. Hehe. Eh, oh well, they go with that scarf, even if you don't have curly hair. :D
I'm from the US as well, and had the same image. Yesterday was actually the first time I looked them up and saw what they were.
Have a container of exotic matter. It has negative gravity. Remember to keep it away from wormholes...
No, Implausible Crossovers don't have to have a Mary Sue; nor does bad slash; nor do fics targeted by SIELU or the Department of Technical Errors. In general, if it's bad writing and it's a fanfic, the PPC can target it. Even trollfics and bad parody have a department. The PPC started out with Mary Sues, of course, but there are more sources of wild, uncontrolled, continuum-destroying plotholes than just the usual glittery girls and their drooling, squeeing, glomping fangirl ways. :)
If you still have some of your old badfic, incidentally, you could PPC your own stories once you get permission to write spinoffs. Some of us have done that.
Welcome, Newbie! Have some chocolate, and enjoy your stay here!
May it inspire you to new heights.
This strange object can be either a polearm or a carnivorous freshwater fish, depending on which you want it to be!
I think it should be a fish, considering that most of my fandoms don't use polearms of that sort as weapons. I've always thought of those fish as vicious, though, so perhaps it could be a weapon of its own, especially if I took it into the Redwall universe.
I'm a newbie with a passion for writing, myself. Heh, I end up welcoming another newbie within such a short time after coming here. But anyway. When it comes to my fanfiction, I really like both canon characters and OCs, though I don't mind doing a fic without one or the other. Improving my writing skills is also something I want to achieve as well.
Also, you're a history buff (well, you're a college history student, so...)? Haha, me too! I'm most interested in the Aztecs and Elizabethan England, personally.
In any case, welcome to the board, fellow newbie!
People can go pretty quickly from being a newbie to regular, I guess. I like more modern things, mostly the 20th century, though I had a really great class about Native North American history, so I'm interested in that, too. Not much about Aztecs.
Here, have a pet cat. You may name her whatever you wish.
Please enjoy this silk headband as a welcoming gift.
Hallo!
Welcome to the board. ^^
There's no problem with taking your time to get into the PPC before you dive head first in asking for permission and stuff; generally, we love it when you wait beyond the initial suggested month to get used to everything and everyone here.
If you haven't seen it yet, we have a wiki here . You might be interested in the pages under the "PPC Intro Pages" section, such as the Guide to the PPC, and the FAQ: For Newbies which will answer a lot of your questions. ^^
We've also got a chatroom here which you are welcome to join if you're interested in chatting with a few of us in moderately almost real time. (This is an open invite to anyone else interested, as well).
All in all, again, welcome, hope you enjoy your time here, and try to not spam the board with multiple posts if there's stuff you're wondering about.
I'm another person who's kinda here to improve their writing ability, and I like making characters, too.
Aside from that, not much for me to say.
Fair winds!
