Cliched, I know, but that's beside the point.
The point is, I feel like we're in a bit of a writing slump, and so I'm putting a challenge to all of you in the hope of getting some enthusiasm going again. The challenge is: starting today, you have until midnight, March 31 (in your respective time zones) to write a mission if you have Permission, or something else if you don't. It doesn't have to be beta-read by the 31st--that's asking too much of our pool of betas--but it has to be finished and available to read. It can be something new or something you've had sitting on your back burner. It can be an individual, team, or group effort. However you do it, get it done!
I will consider what happens if you "win". It just depends on how many of you make it happen, I guess.
Now, you've got exactly four weeks. Go!

I'm going to be spending until midnight on the thirty first sitting back and waiting. 'Cause for the past year or so, if you subtracted mine and Trojie's posts, you'd probably find bugger all missions posted, for the most part. The odd one here and there. Good ones, sometimes, too, but still just odd ones.
So we're sitting this one out. Trojie might try to write something, but my brain broke in September, and that's why we've posted nothing since, and that's half of why it's seemed so quiet. Thank you all for noticing, and we'll be back when we've something worth posting.
Is it cool if it's a piece of writing I already did? I've got a story I think could work.
I guess that might count as on the back-burner, just wanted to know for sure.
If you're planning an expansion or a total re-write, I guess so. Pulling up something you already finished, tweaking it, and claiming to have written something would not be in the spirit of things, though.

Good to know. I'll probably just write something entirely new.
If you're interested in real-world type names, Behind the Name is a very good resource. The search functions are very useful and they have categories for things like literature, historical, and various mythologies as well as regular names by country. They have features I haven't even explored in the left menu. There's also their counterpart, Behind the Surname, but it's not nearly as complete (I think).
If you had something else in mind, I'd be interested to hear about it. I like coming up with names.

You know, I have a finished mission and the beginning of another mission, but I can't post anything because my crazy mother blocked most of my sites (This is a school computer I'm using). Hopefully she'll let me have them back soon. I got two new agents I want to show off!
Looking forward to the stories. {= )

I need this like whoa, I haven't written anything solid since November (and it was my nano and I hated it). Thanks for the kick in the butt, Neshomeh!
I'm scared to even look at my NaNo effort. I'm sure there are kernels of good story in there, but there's so much dreck to wade through to find them. O.o;
At least this time the goal doesn't involve a word-count...?

I've got a major mission that's been languishing in the back of my brain for months. I'll definitely join in.
This'll be a good way to get back in the swing of things. {= )
~Neshomeh
Yeah, I think I can finish one of them by the end of the month.
Or start a new one.
Do sporks count? Because me and a buddy of mine were about to start sporking badfics for practice while I wait for my month to be up.
I'm going to say yes, but that's a fairly broad term. Do you mean an MST or something like that?
~Neshomeh
Erm, yeah. Sorry, I've just heard/seen it referred to as "sporking" more often, which is kind of odd, I suppose.
Sporking does refer to MSTing around here; it's just that it can also refer to a mission, a report on GAFF or Deleterious, or really anything that takes badfic down a peg. So, now you know. Carry on. {= )
