I thought he was dead
Sorry to drop the silliness level for a moment, but I feel I need to say this:
Let's keep Haiti in our thoughts this evening/morning/day. For those of you who don't keep up with the news: Haiti was hit with a mag-7 earthquake. The 'quake practically flattened Port-au-Prince. They're also so incredibly, incredibly poor that if other nations weren't offering aid, then Haiti would be summarily screwed.
So let's remember those who have been lost, and those who have lost so much that's precious to them.
((And please, do not bring up Pat Robertson. Just... don't.))
I would like to donate some money, but I'm not sure where to go. But yes, I really do want to help.
And I seriously hate those selfish pricks saying bad things about Haiti because of the culture or something stupid like that.
People like that really tick me off (but then, so do a lot of things, seeing as I have some anger issues).
Besides donating yourself, people should be aware that Haiti is currently struggling under crippling international debt. It's a horrible situation made worse by a number of factors, not least the fact that they've got a horrible and corrupt government to begin with-- this compounds it.
Not to plug, but ONE is circulating a petition to ask a number of different international entities to drop Haiti's debt, here. They're not asking for money, only signatures.
(If anybody else has organisations to plug, or the like, I'd love to see. I feel like interest in aid over the Western world has dropped drastically after the initial shock.)
My dad spent some time in Haiti a few years back. He doesn't talk about it much, but when he does it's hard to hear. It really is an awful situation to begin with, let alone after being hit by an earthquake of that magnitude. Jeeze.
Also: it's okay to post about stuff like this sometimes, if it's especially momentous or relevant. We like a good serious discussion every once in a while (if a discussion happens). {= )

I recognize that bringing up that rotten sack of meat may not be very charismatic of me.
As for Haiti, I would honestly donate money if I had it, and I plan on doing so when I do get my hands on some.
