It's told me anyway.
I'm writing a fic for a fandom known as Fable, a sort of medieval swords and sorcery thing. I originally had a very vague and incomplete list of names for each month which partially ripped off The Elder Scrolls calendar. Recently, I've been re-reading the Tortallan stories by Tamora Pierce and re-discovering exactly why I loved them. I've noticed that Pierce uses the Gregorian calendar and so I thought, what the hell, this is too much work, I'll use that too. So I deleted the notes on months and now, two weeks later, I remember why I was making up months in the first place.
It turns out that Fable doesn't use the Gregorian calendar. Damn. The problem is that only one single month has a name: Harvest. Judging by the colouring of the leaves at the time of the month's mentioning (right at the beginning), I think this is some time in Autumn. The problem is, I gave up on the months last time and can't be bothered to try again.
So, I have two options. One: ask you lot to help me craft a fantasy calendar (number of days and months will be Gregorian for simplicity). Two: you lot tell me to just use the Gregorian for simplicity.
I'm voting for option two, myself. It's easier for everyone (including the readers) and allows me to get on with the fic without having to check the month name constantly.
Thanks for any help you can give me,
Jade
Doesn't each moon have a name? I think there's at least a Harvest moon (ah-ha-ha), and ...a Hunting moon? It wouldn't be as simple as a Gregorian, but easy to chart and keep track of, I think.
Though Leto's would work too, and be much simpler.
(Actually, it appears that the lunar calendar drifts out of phase with the seasons, and goes through its own cycle every 33 years, according to Wikipedia. So that might not work, after all.)
Is to use the Gregorian calendar and have the notable months having nicknames. Ala Harvest for September. That way it will be easier for you to understand and you can have fun with it aswell.
Just an idea,
Leto
have the Gregorian calendar, both in form and names, but have some people have nicknames for each month?
Only if the month holds a specific occurace or special thing about it. Nice thing about this method is that you can have each group calling a specific month a different name.

I forgot to click the box to get told when there was a response. Is there a way to still get responses? Or do I just have to keep an eye on things?
