I'm hoping to assemble a PPC fanmix, burn a few CDs and bring them to the next Gathering - speaking of which, is the first week in September good for everyone?
Anyway, need help assembling the music. I figure the Men in Black theme tune would work. The Decemberists' "The Tain" would work as the PPC Emergencies theme song - it's eighteen minutes of pure unadulterated awesome, including the wonderful threat to "bleed your heart through a samovar soon" (a samovar being a type of Russian kettle, as far as I can tell). Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb" would be a good Bleeproducts advertising tune. Any more?
Erm... I'm more into classical, so this probably won't work, but... how about The Witches' Ball? Found at:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1QPo6AEHzc&feature=channel_page
I just think it's so intense and lovely, and shows also the elegance of the assassin... ♪
Yeah, sorry, no good at this sort of thing...
But I always associate "The Greatest Show Unearthed" by Creature Feature with the PPC. Whenever I hear it, I envision a group of Agents putting on a grotesque carnival of sorts about what they do. We certainly have access to enough Cursed Fairgrounds.
Also, I third Tank!.
Thoughts?
How about Kate Bush's "Pull Out The Pin"?
My only problem with "Aim For The Head" is that it's quite explicitly a zombie song. "Greatest Show" can be reinterpreted for most any kind of horror. Your call, though.
Hadn't heard of "Pull Out The Pin" before, but after looking it up I think it'd be just fine.
Also: we can't forget "Odalisque".
"Odalisque" works, though I tend to think of it as explicitly a Molly song, mostly because of the rape bit. Poor little girl, she's been through a lot ... But yeah, now you mention it, it works on a more general-PPC level as well, especially the first verse.
Ooh, for DOGA: how about the Bloodhound Gang's "Fire Water Burn"? ("The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire/ We don't need no water, let the motherf--ker burn ...")
Yeah, I know they were the nineties' answer to Hannah Montana, but I liked some of their music when I was a kid because it was about something other than "I Love You Babe" (as TVTropes would say) - this was before I got hooked on murder ballads - and the song's kind of appropriate.
Good shouty battle-cry song.
I'm also trying to assemble a Moses mix to match the Molly one, but assembling a mix for a character who's so far done nothing but sleep, cry, and vomit on people is tricky.
The idea was a soundtrack for a PPC mission using (almost) all-soundtrack music, especially from popular continua. I only have ten so far:
1. Prologue - John Williams - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone [Welcome to HQ]
2. Concerning Hobbits - Howard Shore - LotR:FotR [Meet the Agents]
3. The World - See-Saw - .hack//Sign Original Soundtrack [The World - things aren't well with it]
4. The Knight Bus - John Williams - Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban [The console goes off! It's a mission!]
5. To Lands Unknown - Sleepy Emp - Chrono Symphonic [Off into the Word World]
6. Go on Through - Afro-Celt Sound System - Further in Time [Enduring the badfic]
7. Rock Anthem for Saving the World - Martin O'Donnel, Michael Salvatori - Halo Original Soundtrack [Moving in for the kill]
8. Listen Here - Eddie Harris - House M.D. Non-Album Tracks Vol. 2 [Reading the charge list]
9. Robinton's Whistle Tune II - Mike Freeman & Tania Opland - Masterharper of Pern [Triumph! Celebrate!]
10. "Aslan's Theme" - from WonderWorks' Chronicles of Narnia made-for-TV series [A sense of satisfaction and that all is well. Coda to track 4. Repeat.]
I think the only one not affiliated with a canon is the Afro-Celt Sound System one. The title and lyrics are appropriate, though.
What I feel this mix lacks right now is something to accompany the kill itself. It should be percussive and upbeat without being too loud, fairly short, and I've preferred mostly instrumental works with a few exceptions. Any suggestions?

Wanna burn copies of your mix for the Gathering, and I'll do copies of mine?
This may or may not actually work, but if I understand it right, anybody can now go here and download the mix I put together. It comes with a CD cover in case anyone wants to burn a disc.
Let me know if it works.
~Neshomeh
I don't know about that. I can probably send you the tracks as e-mail attachments, if that works for you. Or get July to tell me how she did her mix, which I was able to download complete with an album cover picture.
Also, due to the Laws of Irony, I just thought of something:
Vitamin C - The Seatbelts - Cowboy Bebop: No Disc
It's six seconds long. *g*
~Neshomeh
I mean, I might be a shameless Cowboy Bebop fan, but either of them would fit for our main theme pretty much perfectly. We could even slightly PPC-ify the latter's lyrics. "I ain't 'fraid of no Sue..." For Emergencies, March of Cambreadth would work for the Agents' mindsets. "Guard your women and children well, send these bastards back to hell! We'll teach them the ways of war, they won't come here any more! Close your mind to stress and pain, fight till you're no longer sane... let not one damn cur pass by! HOW MANY OF THEM CAN WE MAKE DIE?!"
Not sure exactly where we'd fit it, but I'd be fond of using The Battle Cry of Freedom if we could find a spot for it. For some reason, I can see "Don't you forget about me" as the song for retiring/recently deceased Agents. Maybe I'm just in a weird mood. New recruit theme could be the main Morrowind theme, it's always given me the feeling of discovering a new 'verse, with all sorts of unexpected challenges and experiences ahead of you. And another weird one from me- the Yarrow's plans to infect the PPC with Macroviruses set to "Be Prepared".
That's all I can think about music-wise for now, but I'll post here with other ideas as I think of them. With the September thing, I'll see if it's possible. Not entirely sure.
I could drag it up and for downloading again if people wanted.
I forgot to grab it when it went up last time.
From "they won't come here any more" it's actually "Use your shield and use your head, fight till every one is dead! Raise the flag up to the sky, how many of them can we make die?!" But still, you get the idea. It still fits.
How about ...
-Slipknot's "Pulse of the Maggots".
-Nine Inch Nails' "My Violent Heart".
-Creature Feature's "Aim For The Head".
-Decemberists' "Culling of the Fold" - I'm slightly dubious on that one because killing Sues generally doesn't "break your heart to break her bones", but the rest of the song is pretty good. "He's a wicked disgrace/ and he said it to your face/ you gotta cut him up, boy ..."
