I don't know. What's Doom?
So there's someone on LJ who's taken something of a novel approach: namely, taking a Suefic and rewriting it so that it's no longer a Suefic. The author knew about the project ahead of time, and is being given credit where it's due. (Which doesn't mean that she's happy about it...but she kind of brought it on herself.)
What's the policy on something like that? (And no...although I'm aware of the situation, I'm not directly involved.)
Well, it's novel if they take the actual fic, and keep the name of the OC and such.
I've done something similar. I took the plot of the fic, the canon characters involved and added my own OC. Currently working on something like that, except that I took plot where the CC is supposed to do something no sane person would do voluntarily. And I still haven't thought of anything good to coax hem with.
Anyway, a rewritten OC so it's no longer a Sue is less work for the PPC.
This person is keeping the same basic characters, same basic plotline and events, et cetera. However, it's being completely re-written: The characters are being de-Sueified, the plot holes are being filled in, and the setting is getting superimposed over the Generic Locations.
As one might imagine, the original author (who has a very thin skin and no sense of humor) is in a massive snit about it. As I hear it, she actually got the rewrite run off a fanfic site by crying plagiarism.
Having read both the original piece and what existed of the re-write as of when the Suethor threw a fit...the re-write is no more "plagiarism" of the original piece than this is of this.
The infamous badfic Doom: Repercussions of Evil (that I strongly suspect to be a stealth parody) was remade into a goodfic.

Speaking of Doom, Trojie and I sporked that one a while back.

You have no chance to survive make your time?
Well, that's what the original sounds like to me.
that could count as badfic?
I don't know. What's Doom?
Was that sarcasm?

Thanks for the clicky-link.
Sorry, it's just I never figured that people could have not heard of it, even if they aren't games people. The mainstream media kicked up a big fuss about it on a lot of occasions (the Columbine massacre being the major one though). They spoke utter bull, as usual. Then there's the sequels, the movie, I think there were a few other big things as well. Oh, well, I gave you the link, so no worries. Now you know.
