*glee* They're coming in from all over the place, aren't they?
So I managed to get through the atrocity of an Abhorsen fic that was brought up somewhere down that-a-way.
Without further ado, the 'Sue is sentenced to death by stupidity.
In somewhat related news, I had an odd dream involving bits of this fic (the proper noun turned common noun) and asking Agent Trojie to Britpick something for me. (No idea what. Perhaps there's a HP mission in my future...)
I must say, I've never had PPC dreams before. (Has anyone else? o.O)
Incidentally, is the nameless Abhorsen still up for adoption? Because if she hasn't been claimed, I'd be more than willing to take her on. However, you'd probably have to wait a week or two before seeing her in action, since I don't plan to write anything until the bulk of finals is over.
It's been a few days, but I thought I'd drop you a congrats on your second mission. I'm looking forward to reading it since Abhorsen's a personal fandom, unlike the Tales series. So now I can read one of your missions AND have some idea who everyone is without needing the internet! Yay!
Well you already know I think it's good, but what the hell, I'll say it again: Nice work, an enjoyable read as before.
Done in by her own foolishness- very nice! And the Abhorsen seems sensible enough, taken out of the fic. *shakes head at anyone thinking an Abhorsen would go into a fight unprepared if they could help it*
…I tend to dream more in a sort of RPG-style, actually.
I almost missed it, actually - I was all ready to conk her over the head as she turned around from defying it, and then I re-read that section and went "Wait a minute... that's not right..."
It's common sense, really; you're going to fight an opponent who would happily kill you, you wear your gorram armor.
RPG-style dreams? o.O Now I've heard everything. =P
Thank you for disposing of it! ^_^
I promise I'll have a read and make comments on the mission when I sober up.
Fic is a common noun anyway; it were never proper, 'cause it ent real English, so dinnae fash yersen. But if your subconscious is asking Trojie to britpick, give it a kick from me, 'cause I've spent years britpicking her brain.
Um. What's Abhorsen?
There were issues with forgetting the capitals on several proper nouns within the 'fic, but only one spawned amusing-ness: the transformation of Saraneth to saraneth. Not done. >.
The Abhorsen Trilogy - Sabriel, Lirael, Abhorsen - is a series written by Garth Nix. Loads of fun including necromancers, living dead, and the Abhorsen, who is meant to return the dead who have been woken to their rightfully-earned rest. I highly recommend looking it up. ^_^
....*kicks subconscious in the shins*
Unfortunately, I'm biased against Garth Nix's books, my former housemate having raved altogether too much about Sabriel.
If the best your subconscious can come up with is bitches about capitalisation, your agents may benefit from some time in the DBS. Over here, bad English is the least of our worries.
Also, I am taking this moment to officially say unto Trojie, "No. We are not going into Abhorsen fics. Not unless you want to spark a three-days-long rant about the Smurf every time you try to make me write a single line."
Er... yeah. You lost me. Smurfs are the little blue things, right? Possibly with white diapers?
I can understand the bias. I'm currently committing something similar against Stephenie Meyer's books, as everyone and their dog is attempting to get me to read the rest of the Twilight series. >.
*eyes DBS dubiously* It's an idea. Especially as there are some rather atrocious bad slash fics in some of my favorite fandoms. I'm still weighing the trauma versus the entertainment and satisfaction output, though.
As Trojie said, the Smurf is my ex-housemate. First name starts with S and surname's Murphy, hence the nickname. Most definitely not my favourite person.
I'm resisting Twilight too. I suspect I'll be forced to read it eventually though, by the friend who made me read a Laurell K Hamilton just so she had someone to snark about it with. Now that's what I call traumatising.
You could always ease yourself in gently with the DBS. There seems to be two types of badslash: hideously OOC anf fluffy or wangsty; or extremely graphic and featuring rape. Start with the first kind, they're a lot easier. The second kind will break your brain.
She's right. Take it from us, we know that of which we speak.
-Trojie, going back to work on several missions of the second variety right now.
... the nickname of Pads' previous housemate. Not an actual Smurf, thank Glod.
Alright, alright, Pads, no Abhorsenverse missions. But can I possibly drag you into Tortall? I'm *sure* there are some inappropriate knight-slash stories out there.
And knight-slash is always good. Except when it's Bad, of course. Hmm. Remind me to ask Inept if she's ever come across any really truly awful Gawain slash, 'cause that could be fun.
Hurr hurr. ^_^ I'll take links to any good stuff at http://hsavinien.livejournal.com I'm a member of a med. lit lj slash community, but there hasn't been any badfic as all the writers are at least competent.
Yes, that's the problem with really esoteric fandoms that are only known to people of a philological or medieval bent. There's not a great deal of fantards about. Still, the Beeb's version of Merlin's probably produced some truly awful tripe. Unfortunately I, um, forgot to get into it (I miss my Robin Hood; I will not be swayed to a different anachronistic offering from Auntie Beeb) and so can't really go hunting badfic with any degree of competence.
Ah, so the hsavinien who keeps commenting on our missions and random entries in Trojie's lj is you? I shall try to remember that.
I know "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight," if that's what you're referring to. Nume would be glad to help out if Trojie refuses, I'm sure. (By which I of course mean that I'd enjoy inflicting it on him.) And I'm guessing you'd thwap me enough that things would actually get done in a timely manner, too. ^_^;
~Neshomeh, who has a series of failed co-writes on her hard drive.
I'll give you a shout if we find any horrible Gawain porn then.
Agent Trojie will be SO confused it isn't funny.
You'll forgive him, however, if he keeps his distance from the new Agent. Old necromancer habits, you understand.
Good killing! Abhorsenverse Sues are always nasty.
The Narrative Laws of Comedy and the Ironic Overpower, however, might not be so forgiving. (cue evil laughter)
I have to admit, it's the first Abhorsen 'Sue I've encountered. If they're generally nasty, I shudder to think of the state of the rest of the fandom.
If there is potential for misery and/or explosions, the Narrative Laws of Comedy with make sure it happens.
For the most part, the Abhorsen fandom is filled with short oneshots and lots and lots of OCs. Some are good, and others are... not.
Yup, I've had 'em. The only one I can remember right now is the one where hS came to America for a visit and stayed in the basement of my old house, where I was still living for some reason. It was a little strange, to be honest. I think we watched the Wonderworks production of "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe." And there was something about my set of Prismacolor pencils, but I don't remember.
~Neshomeh, who has not yet met any of the British PPCers in person, but hopes to do so this spring.
