As I recall, the Hogsmeade/Hogwarts area doesn't really have anywhere you could blend that kind of object in, although you could possibly hide it near the Shrieking Shack or in the Forbidden Forest, where people are less likely to go.

It depends on whether those locations are being visited in the fic, of course, but there are also a lot of sentient beasts in the forest. So I'd say to rely on the SEP field for the nmost part.

I would assume that students wake up, or are woken up by their peers, sufficiently before breakfast to dress, gather materials, do last-minute homework, whatever.
Adjustable biological clocks and all.
