No one here has the ability to PPC is -- or, more precisely, the permission. There's actually a ban on PPCing fanfic based on religious texts (which is why there's only one such mission report). You've not heard about it because it's not come up, but I figure this is as good an opportunity as any to mention it.

And yes, I know the Scientologists are a crazy religion, but a rule's a rule. I'm personally willing to lift the ban (I was never in favour of it to begin with) but I'm not doing that by myself.

It seems a fairly sensible ban simply because it would avoid religious flame wars (which I have learnt to dread, being a hardline Darwinian), but ... I'm curious as to when and how it came about.

Someone presented the Board with Surrender to my Love, which is scary, and now dead, because I PPC'd it. When I posted it, someone responded with another Biblefic, which I said I'd also do. At that point, someone said "I'd rather you didn't," a couple of others backed her up, and then at least one, possibly two Permission Givers chimed in to agree to a ban. I don't remember the specific people involved, and I may have some of the details wrong, but that's a general version.

So many people have strong opinions in so many different directions about the topic that it's just a flamewar waiting to happen. I know, I read the Jack forum.

Slight shame, because then we can't spork such things as the Draco/Jesus fic I remember seeing a summary for once. (It was in a friendslocked LJ entry, but merely knowing it exists/existed terrifies the life out of me.) Ah well, there are other places to do so.

Either way - *waves a little flag* - I've had enough difficult conversations with friends over religious issues that I'd be very glad to never see such things dragged into the PPC. I hope you don't lift the ban, hS.

As I said, backing away from religious subjects avoids flamewars, but ... surely badfic of the Bible is offensive to Christians? I don't see how it's better to let it exist. Oh well. Maybe it's that old free will thing again.

I avoid Bible-fic like the plague because it really, really makes me uncomfortable, and PPC-ing it would just feel like having my nose shoved in it.
