Apparently there was some drama this year over voting and whether or not certain books/stories/whatevers "should" be on the Hugo ballot. If you're interested, there's a full breakdown of how voting went here. (Long .pfd file alert!) I don't know enough about said drama to know whether we'll see any fanfiction backlash or not.

Do you happen to know what the drama was about?

I admit, I'm quite amused/pleased/surprised to see 'Time' won a Hugo. I followed it as it came out - I imagine lots of people here did - but I haven't gone back and read over it to see how it holds up as a complete story...

I'm guessing a lot of the drama was on specifically LonCon-connected fora, which I didn't have access to.

But from what I've seen on John Scalzi's blog, apparently there were some people arguing that the Hugos are biased against politically conservative authors. With several awards going to female authors, and one of the "slate" of conservative authors coming in behind "No Award" in his category, there's apparently a lot of kvetching on the web today.

Then there were the claims that nominating "Wheel of Time" would skew the voting because people would get LonCon memberships just to vote for "Wheel of Time". Which clearly didn't happen, from the detailed breakdown.
