Today we lost Robin Williams. I think the only movies of his I ever watched all the way through were the first and third Aladdin movies. I know I saw him in trailers or snippets of other stuff, but to me, he is/was Genie. He's part of all us 90's kids, whether we heard him doing Genie or saw him in drag as Mrs. Doubtfire or (as my FB friends posted a lot) in Dead Poets Society.
We ain't never had a friend like him. May he rest in peace. -

O Captain! my Captain! our fearful trip is done,
The ship has weather’d every rack, the prize we sought is won,
The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,
While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring;
But O heart! heart! heart!
O the bleeding drops of red,
Where on the deck my Captain lies,
Fallen cold and dead.
O Captain! my Captain! rise up and hear the bells;
Rise up—for you the flag is flung—for you the bugle trills,
For you bouquets and ribbon’d wreaths—for you the shores a-crowding,
For you they call, the swaying mass, their eager faces turning;
Here Captain! dear father!
This arm beneath your head!
It is some dream that on the deck,
You’ve fallen cold and dead.
My Captain does not answer, his lips are pale and still,
My father does not feel my arm, he has no pulse nor will,
The ship is anchor’d safe and sound, its voyage closed and done,
From fearful trip the victor ship comes in with object won;
Exult O shores, and ring O bells!
But I with mournful tread,
Walk the deck my Captain lies,
Fallen cold and dead. -

And what tragic irony that someone who brings so much laughter and inspiration to others should suffer from depression himself. It's not fair.
~Neshomeh, who intends to rewatch Patch Adams as soon as possible. And then maybe Hook. And The Final Cut.... -

I cried a lot last night - as eatpraylove says, we 90s kids (and probably more than just us) have known Robin Williams as a genius of acting and comedy.

Grant to him, and to all those we love but see no longer, eternal rest. Let light perpetual shine upon them. May his soul and the souls of all the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
(From the Book of Common Prayer. It was the words of Robin Williams that were quoted to me, over and anon, when I came to this church. His laughter and personality and work were enormously influential; I cannot say how deeply saddened I am by his loss.) -

As a depression sufferer I know that it can take you to some very dark places, may he find peace and joy in the next life.
