The tenth Doctor decided he was better off without a companion. Wishing to take to the stars, the Doctor encounters a curious human colony. Supposedly uninhabitable, somehow the colonist survived. The Doctor realizes that the dragons have saved them.
The Doctor visits Pern and it starts off really enjoyable. There are minor details off like barefoot candidates and one of the dragons gets named Myth. Then it suddenly goes WTF. -

But the sands of the hatching grounds are so hot their feet would be burned raw! They wear sandals in canon and even those don't do much!

But didn't Lessa start the practice of having candidates spend time with the eggs and touch them beforehand to cut down on injuries?
Yeah, page 263 in my bound trilogy, the middle of Dragonquest with Jaxom. The other guy is yelling that only candidates get to touch them. Does anyone have "Get Off the Unicorn" handy?
