For the Official Fanfiction University of Homestuck. The first couple of chapters are ready for a second pair of eyes and the third and fourth are not far behind. Most of the planning is done. I'm particularly looking for:

Someone to double check that the canons are in character,
Someone to double check that I'm getting quirks right and help me with spoken quirks (This was one of those topics that required a lot of thought. It'll be all explained in the story, though not in the first few chapters.),
Someone to double check my canon,
And someone to help me out with humour, namely to tell me whether my attempts at it are actually funny and point out opportunities I may be missing.

Also just general beta'ing. And remember, the more the merrier! You don't have to have a masters in Homestuck canon, just some common sense, though canon experts are also appreciated.

It's always either Eridan, Dave, Karkat, Sollux, Gamzee, or (on occasion) John. It's a bit sad that you can nearly always guess to within six characters.

The concrit was great, though. And those pictures were awesome. I have to admit, I did like the way the troll looked, Aradia-horns notwithstanding. And she gets happy points for having a blood color that, y'know, actually exists.

Yeah, spoilers are bad. You can read this thread, as there are no particular spoilers from after the Second Intermission. It's mostly just a lot of discussion about minis and eggs.

If you should finish soon, you can still help. I'll always accept new betas. But don't hurry too much! It rather ruins it.

If you want to get some eggs cracked and effectively smeared all over everything... Well, I suppose a volunteer with a fire extinguisher would be best.

But I think it's safe to assume that you didn't volunteer to crush eggs with fire extinguishers or books, or anything else for that matter. The volunteering is much appreciated, by the way.

There was a brief discussion some weeks ago on the minis for Homestuck. Another person was writing a Homestuck mission and was unsure of whether minis had yet been established. We didn't decide on anything there, though great approval was given to the idea of mini-buckets. However, I didn't want a particularly large number of pseudo-sentient buckets running amuck in the OFU, so I what I have written in here are mini-His-Honorable-Tyrannies, or mini-Tyrannies, that come holding a bucket. If the mission featuring that is posted before the OFU and has something else, I'll gladly change it. (Though I still don't want too many buckets lying around. We know there will be far too many already, and the staff will be traumatized enough.)

His Tyranny holding a bucket will fluster my poor Alternian agent though. I can't WAIT to write it.

The minis for Avatar show up as different things depending on what spawned them, but they transform into lemurs for the OFU.

Would it work to have something like that happen for your OFU?

I for one would go with Mini-Lusi, given that they're really the closest thing to mundane animals Homestuck has. Either the lusus of the most closely-related (i.e. by class and aspect, by personality, by color, whatever) troll, or just at random.

You actually really don't want a mundane animal - you'll recall the original minis were mini Balrogs, followed by the Mini Aragogs and so on. Personally, I'd go with Horrorterrors.

I always got the impression that minis were based on some monster in the canon, if there was a monster, and the most significant animal if there was not. I mean, we've got mini-Balrogs, to start with, mini-Aragogs, and so on and so forth.

Yeah, there are a lot of things. I discarded several ideas, including mini-horrorterros. That was my favorite for a while. There are definitely a lot of things.

Or maybe something Roxy-related, maybe mini-Mutis.

I noticed more than anything that minis are always somewhat tangential to the main plot of a work, never really important things. The closest seems to be the mini-Balrog.

And by "mundane" I suppose I meant less "ordinary" and more "not possessed of world-wrecking powers that it would be inconvenient for a mini to have".

I didn't think so. That's why I shied away from horrorterrors and Gl'bgolyb.

Maybe if they get something so mangled you can't actually tell what was intended, then you get a mini-Geromy? I dunno.

I don't know Homestruck at all and have attempted many times to actually read it. I could be a pair of eyes for how friendly it is to people who don't read the comic.

But actually, that sounds like it would be quite helpful, especially since there are people who will read an OFU whether they've read the source material or not.

And Homestuck is really hard to start, but if you'd like to you could try Let's Read Homestuck. It's a reading on YouTube with the pictures displayed as they read. It's pretty awesome.

...but it's lovely-wonderful. I'm watching it, despite, you know, actually being in the process of reading the blasted thing. Jade's voice is perfect, and WV's is rather unexpected, but somehow fits.
