Now, down to business: that's pretty fantastically awesome. And is made all the more so by following the links to find this article - I've actually heard of that party! I remember reading about the catering somewhere. (Also, in that photo - the Professor reminds me a lot of our current Bilbo. (Also, I'm now imagining Tolkien as a Time Lord called 'the Professor' and it is awesome))

There's a poem in Elvish (no word on which!) in there... and, just, wow.

So go on then... things that it would be both awesome, hilarious, and incredibly frustrating if it turns out he said in his speech:

"Some things are left deliberately ambiguous - such as the question of whether Elves have wings..."

"The heart of my legendarium is, and always has been, Tom Bombadil."

"This morning I handed my son Christopher the completed manuscript of my 'Silmarillion', to be published no sooner than 2015..."

"My one wish is that no-one ever try to extend my sub-creation. Middle-earth is mine, and mine alone."

"I would like to restate what I have asserted all along: my writings are not fiction, but actually happened. I have spent many a happy hour in Rivendell, in the company of the sons of Elrond - and have encoded its location in the maps in my books."

I think that's enough to go along with. ;)

hS - "To the hobbits! And may they outlast all the wizards!"
